STUDY OF EVAPORATION PROCESS

OBJECTIVES:

To understand the prioiples of evaporation and condensation processes.

·To measure the rate of evaporation of water.
·To study the effect of rotation on evaporationrate(RPM vs evaporation rate plot at different
pressure).
·To study the effect of pressure on the evaporation rate.
·To study the effect of water bath temperature on evaporation rate (water bath temperature vs
evaporation rate plot at constant pressure)

INTRODUCTION:

Evaporation is a fundamental physical process by which a liquid is transformed into a gas or vapor
state by increasing the temperature and/or reducing the pressure of the liquid. It is a complex process
that involves the transfer of energy from theliquid to the surrounding environment.leading to the
breaking of intermolecular bonds and the escape of the liquid molecules into the gas
phase.Evaporation is a process that occurs naturally in many systems. including the
atmosphere, bodies of water, and living organisms. It also plays a critical role in many technological
and industrial processes, such as distillation, drying.and vapor deposition.Understanding the rate of
evaportion and the factors that influence it is essential in designing and optimizing these
processes. The rate of evaporation of a liquid depends on several factors, including the properties of
the liquid, the temperature and pressure of the surrounding environment, and the surface area of the
liquid. The process of evaporation is also influenced by the presence of other substances in the liquid
or the surrounding environment, such as solutes, pollutants,or atmospheric gases.

WORKING PROCEDURE:

1. Take 200 ml water.

2. Set the bath temperature to 80 degreesCelsius.
3. Keep the pressure at I atm.
