The jeepney modernization program is a government program that will modernize the

traditional jeepneys that we have. This program will implement a norm to utilize the
advantages of modernized jeepneys throughout the nation. This is why I agree to the
implementation of the jeepney modernization program. This program will benefit a lot of
commuters by having features like GPS, an automated fare collecting system, and a
CCTV camera. With this every passengers can ensure that they are safe when riding
jeepneys. This modernize jeepneys aren’t just safe for the passengers it is also safer for
the environment. The proposed modern jeeps have a Euro 4 engines that have an
enhanced catalytic converter that can more efficiently filter out ambient impurities like
sulfur and carbon monoxide thus this engines burns less fuel reducing GHG emissions.
While it has its pros, the PUVMP has also received a lot of criticism from PUV drivers as
they say its “anti-poor”, and the high cost of acquiring a modernized jeep and a lot of
drivers will lose their jobs if the program were to be implemented. Whether or not the
enactment of the PUVMP is a bad or good decision by our government, it will certainly
contribute to major long-term advantages for the environment, the economy, and both
drivers and passengers.
