TECHNICAL DEFINITION

The title is Gamertopia: A Proposed eSports Arena and Training Facility,

Gamertopia is a combination of the words ‘Gamer’ and ‘Utopia’ wherein Gamer

are identified as the is a person who enjoys playing video games. Gamer can be

of any age, gender, or ethnicity, and they can play video games for a variety of

reasons, such as for fun, competition, or socialization. According to the

Dictionary, Utopia is an imagined place or state of things in which everything is

perfect, to be able to achieve Utopia it must be a place where everyone is free to

live their best life. It is a place where everyone is treated with respect and dignity,

regardless of their background or beliefs. In a utopia, everyone has access to the

resources they need to thrive, and everyone has the opportunity to reach their

full potential. With the combination that has derived from those two words,

Gamertopia is a place where every gamer enthusiast is free to live their best lives

and pursuit their gaming hobbies, Gamertopia aims to help them to thrive with

the facilities that it will provide, it is an ideal place for every gaming enthusiasts

eSports means Electronic Sports which means that it is a kind of sports

that uses technology as a medium to play it such as Computers, Mobile Phones,

and consoles, it is a form of competition using video games wherein it is

ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PAGE 2

organized in a professional manner just like how Professional Sports are with

tournaments and high prize pools. eSports can be played by teams or individuals.

According to Cambridge Dictionary, Arena is a place with a huge flat space

surrounded by seats that is used for sports and entertainment. Basically an

eSports Arena is a place for competitive eSports Tournament where hundreds

and thousands of people can spectate the game live, but the difference of an

eSports arena with a sports arena is that an eSports arena needs advance

technology and high connectivity since majority of the games played in the

tournament often relies on the internet and advanced equipment such as high

performing PC set-ups are being installed on the game stage so that it can deliver

a smooth gameplay among the players. Training Facility is a place where people

can learn new skills and improve their existing skills, an eSports training Facility

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Over the years, an enormous growth has taken place in the eSports

Industry. It has gained a lot of viewership and revenues which made the market

increase significantly worldwide, The spectators or the viewers are the one who

have highly contributed to the revenue growth of eSports. Due to this

phenomenon a lot of brands are investing in eSports marketing when they saw

that eSports has the potential to reach large and engaged audience. A lot of

countries has created infrastructures to support the growing industry, eSports

tournaments are sometimes held in Auditoriums or Sports Arenas but due to

some the advanced technology that eSports require such as big screens,

powerful connection, gaming equipment, and broadcasting areas. Some

countries decided to build Arenas that are dedicated for eSports alone to further

endorse eSports as a formal type of sports. The Philippines is one of the

countries that has a big boost in the eSports industry as according to Newzoo, a

company that gather data about video games and gamers around the world,

There are 43 million gamers in the Philippines that spent 572 million US Dollars

or when converted to Philippine peso equivalents to about 32 Billion Pesos,

which makes the Philippines 25th biggest market by revenue from games around

the world. The Philippines became a country with a large and passionate eSports

community, multiple eSports league has been established since then and in 2020

the Philippine Olympic Committee has accredited the Philippine eSports

ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PAGE 4

Organization (PeSO) as a member making it the governing body for Philippine

eSports and in 2019 when the South East Asian Games included eSports as a old

medal event, PeSO assembled their first team to compete where they named it

‘Sibol’ , they attained the gold medal in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Dota 2, and

Tekken 7, these are some of the games of eSports at the 2019 South East Asian

Games. Since then the Philippines has been highly competitive but the problem

is the Philippines does not yet have a dedicated eSports Arena and Training

Facility for the National team, there are multiple eSports agencies in the

Philippines such as Tier One Entertainment, Bren eSports, TNC Predator, and

many more. These eSports Agencies has their dedicated Training Facilities

wherein they just rent on commercial buildings or purchase a house that they let

their players stay and train while they prepare for upcoming tournaments, which

means that there are no Formal Training Facilities that indicates professionalism

of the National League that are dedicated for Philippine eSports Organization to

use. There are also no dedicated eSports arenas in the Philippines, Tournaments

are usually held on Auditoriums, which does not have the technology that

eSports arena need.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The Objective of this Proposal is to create a dedicated venue for

Tournaments and a Proper and Fixed Training Facility to the Philippine’s eSports

National League Sibol, which is headed by the Philippine eSports Organization.

ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PAGE 5

According to an Article on ABS-CBN news that was published on July 4, 2023, The

Philippine eSports Organization is eyeing to build an eSports Arena and Training

Facility to help them attain their fututre goal on the future upcoming South East

Asian Games. To be able to help them achieve their vision, The Proposed Arena

and Training Facility must be able to help the Philippine eSports Organization to

promote their league as the country’s eSports representative and to show the

majority that eSports is an actual sports and not just a past time for the newer

generations. The Training facility will further more equip the national team to

enhance their skills and boost their chances of winning the upcoming

international eSports Tournaments. The Athletes, Hosts, and Organizations will

benefit from the proposed eSports arena by many aspects. The first aspect is it

can help the country grow economically by sttracting tourists from different

countries, an example of this is the South Korea League of Legends World

Championship 2018 has a total revenue of over 100 million US dollars which

really pushed a positive economic impact in South Korea. Second aspect is

creating job opportunities in fields such as hospitality, security, event

management, Information Technology, and even eSports players, an example of

this is the eSports arena in Las Vegas, Nevada was projected to generate over

1,000 jobs when they established the HyperX Arena. eSports Arena can also

increase investments by attracting public and private sectors to invest since

eSports has been proven to constantly generate revenues, this investments can
ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PAGE 6

be allocated to the improvement of the local infrastructure and further enhance

the quality of eSports in the Philippines. While the training facility will improve

the player performance because it will provide the players space and equipment

they require to practice and improve their skills where it will lead them to a high

probability of winning by improved performance in competitions and

tournaments, it increases the team’s cohesion by providing the players and

coaches with the opportunity to have a better team work and build a good

working relationship. In Training Facilities, players are provided with access to a

wide range of resources, such as high-en gaming set-ups, streaming equipment,

and training materials, these can help the players improve their skills and

become more competitive. Professionalism is also promoted in Training Facilities,

it gives eSports teams a professional image and attract more investors and

sponsors, it can also attract new players. Overall the proposed eSports Arena

and Training Facility aims to create an eSports Arena that is according to the

global standards of global arenas in order to attract tourists from all over the

world, and to be able to promote national eSports team worldwide and to attain

the goals in boosting the economy by tourism. The Training Facility aims to

provide all the facilities that the players need in order to be fully equipped to

compete and win international tournaments, the Training Facility won’t just be

focusing on the competitiveness and play quality of the players but will also

provide facilities that will balance their physical well being because as we know
ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PAGE 7

that playing games may also cause health problems specially it promotes a

sedentary lifestyle to the players, so it is a priority to have facilities for the well

physical well being of the players and a breathing space away from the screen.

Data Analysis:

These are the following data to support the study:

Figure 1.0 Graph from YCP Solidiance Research and Analysis

The graph shows the number of viewers for the Super Bowl and League of

Legends World Championship finals from 2010 to 2022. The number of viewers

for the Super Bowl has been relatively steady over the past 12 years, while the

number of viewers for the League of Legends World Championship finals has

increased significantly. In 2022, the League of Legends World Championship

finals had more viewers than the Super Bowl. The increasing number of viewers

for the League of Legends World Championship finals shows that eSports is

becoming increasingly popular. This means that there is a growing demand for

eSports facilities. The fact that the League of Legends World Championship finals

had more viewers than the Super Bowl in 2022 shows that eSports is now a
ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PAGE 12

professional sport. This means that eSports athletes need and deserve to have

access to professional facilities. eSports arenas and training facilities can attract

tourists and generate tax revenue for the local community. They can also create

jobs in a variety of industries, such as hospitality, security, and event

management.

Figure 2.0 Graph from YCP Solidiance Research and Analysis

The graph shows the peak viewership of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Professional League (MPL) Philippines from Season 1 to Season 7. The peak

viewership has increased exponentially over the past few seasons, from 1.2

million in Season 1 to 8.8 million in Season 7. Overall, the graph shows that

Mobile Legends is a highly popular eSport in the Philippines and that eSports is

growing in popularity in the Philippines. This supports the creation of eSports

arenas and training facilities in the Philippines, which would provide Mobile
ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PAGE 13

Legends players and fans with a place to come together and socialize, and boost

the local economy.

Figure 3.0 Article from ABS-CBN News Website

The Philippine eSports Organization (PESO) is considering building a dedicated

eSports training facility and arena in the coming years. This is part of their plan

to improve the performance of Filipino eSports athletes in international

competitions. PESO executive director Marlon Marcelo said that the facility and

arena will be used by the national eSports team, Sibol. He also said that PESO is

open to partnering with the private sector to make this project a reality. The
ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PAGE 14

construction of the eSports training facility and arena is still in its early stages of

planning. PESO has not yet disclosed the estimated cost of the project or the

timeline for its completion. The creation of a dedicated eSports training facility

and arena is a welcome development for the Philippine eSports community. It

will provide Filipino eSports athletes with a place to train and compete at the

highest level. It will also help to promote eSports as a legitimate sport in the

Philippines.

Figure 4.0 HyperX eSports Arena in Las Vegas, USA

HyperX Arena is a proof that eSports has a great business and tourism

opportunity. According to Allied eSports Entertainment, the parent company of

HyperX Arena, the company generated $2.4 million in revenue in the first
ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PAGE 15

quarter of 2022, a 381% increase from the same period in 2021. This growth was

attributed to increased foot traffic at HyperX Arena Las Vegas due to an

increased number of events. It is reasonable to assume that HyperX Arena is a

significant contributor to Allied eSports Entertainment's revenue. HyperX Arena

is a state-of-the-art eSports arena located in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is one of the

largest and most technologically advanced eSports arenas in the world. HyperX

Arena hosts a variety of eSports events, including tournaments, qualifiers, and

meet-and-greets. In addition to ticket sales, HyperX Arena also generates

revenue from sponsorship, food and beverage sales, and merchandise sales.

HyperX Arena has partnered with a number of major brands, including HyperX,

Intel, and Nvidia. These partnerships provide HyperX Arena with a significant

source of revenue.
ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PAGE 16

Quantified Expected number of Users:

Figure 5.0 Daily Tribune Newspaper

the popularity of esports in the country, noting that the Mobile Legends: Bang

Bang (MLBB) Professional League (MPL) Playoffs were able to attract 2,000 live

attendees despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This suggests that there is a

strong demand for esports events in the Philippines, and that an esports arena

and training facility would be a welcome addition to the country's esports

infrastructure. The MPL Playoffs were held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, which

is a general-purpose venue. While the SM Mall of Asia Arena is a great venue for

a variety of events, it is not specifically designed for esports. An esports arena

would be able to provide a more immersive experience for fans, with features
ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PAGE 17

such as dedicated seating for spectators, state-of-the-art audio and visual

equipment, and specialized facilities for players and teams. Mr. Ernest John "EJ"

Alberto, the co-founder and CEO of Tier One Entertainment, says that an esports

arena and training facility would help to "professionalize" the Philippine esports

scene. By providing a dedicated space for esports events and training, such a

facility would help to attract more sponsors and investors to the scene, and

would also help to develop the skills and talents of Filipino esports players and

teams.

Soil Profile:

Soil Type of the site according to the Soil Map is Angeles Fine Sand.

Sandy and gravelly soils are good for building foundations because they drain

water quickly, which prevents the soil from shifting and causing cracks in the
ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PAGE 32

building. Compacting sand and gravel makes them even more stable. However,

sand can be washed away over time, so helical piers are a good foundation

option for sandy soils in these cases.

In simpler terms, sandy and gravelly soils are good for building foundations

because they are stable and don't hold water. Helical piers are a good option for

sandy soils that have been washed away over time.

Construction Techniques that can be used based on the Concept: Neo-Futurism

Architecture
ADAMSON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PAGE 33

Neo-futurism is an architectural movement that emerged in the late 20th

century. It is characterized by its use of bold, geometric forms, metallic

materials, and innovative construction techniques.

Some of the construction techniques commonly used in neo-futurism include:

Prefabrication: Prefabrication is the process of constructing components of a

building off-site and then assembling them on-site. This technique is often used

in neo-futurism to create complex, geometric forms that would be difficult or

impossible to construct using traditional methods.

3D printing: 3D printing is a relatively new construction technique that allows for

the creation of complex shapes and structures. It is often used in neo-futurism to

create unique and innovative designs.

Smart materials: Smart materials are materials that can change their properties

in response to environmental stimuli, such as temperature or light. They are

often used in neo-futurism to create buildings that are more responsive to their

environment and more energy-efficient.
