1.0 ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
First of all, our utmost gratitude goes to the Almighty for our iconic instructor, Miss
Farah and Miss aliya, for actually giving us with the chance to be completing this whole field
work task. The group project that has been assigned to us helps in providing us with
massive advantages, together with the willingness to collaborate as a team, which helps
strengthen our bonds with the group, and even with the current moment of cohesiveness, we
would therefore work more effectively and accomplish this coursework within the time
given. Her blessing has allowed us to successfully finished this report of subject, SUG 111
Final Test levelling and contour in the time given.Alhamdulillah, without Her help, this report
cannot be completed. The purpose of this report is to fulfil the requirements for the Diploma
of Building Surveying, Integrated Final Report, UiTM SeriIskandar, Perak.
In addition,.We have been tasked to do a writing report based on what we learn in the class .
So, the topic that has been chosen by our lecturer is Levelling and contour which it is indeed
involving a technique of calculating the distance of some points or even more stations. It was
already stated in the guidelines where the surrounding that need to be surveyed is within the
region of Uitm Seri Iskandar , Perak
Furthermore, we would like to express our deepest appreciation to all those who provided us
the opportunity to complete this report. Without them, none of this report would finish with all
the information provided. A special gratitude we give to my integrated our project, Miss farah
and miss aliya, whose contribution in motivating suggestions and encouragement, helped us
to manage our project especially in writing this report.
Lastly, we would also like to expand our deepest gratitude to all those who have directly and
indirectly guided me writing this report. I would also like to thanks to all my course mates in
helping to complete this report.

2.0 INTRODUCTION
Therefore the main aim of this project is to actually learn, observe and truly
understand how to execute surveying work by implementing the knowledge of what has
been learned before and the techniques of calculations which need to be used on the
location that been stated. For the starting of this field work, it was initially started from the
Byben chmark (BM ) and in which has already known the Reduced Level ( RL ). Also in
order to know the following reduced level after the known RL are given, it should either be
done with Fall and Rise method or also H.O.C methods. And after that, within the BM, a
number of change points (CP) would then be formed to analyse the foresight measurements
from each station and to record the current reading for data analysis. Following the
successful completion of the investigation, the RL values will also be determined and
recorded into the Booking Form. Alongside that, now that we have acquired the data on the
RL values, it must be estimated using arithmetric checking to validate the accuracy of the
process.
pg. 4
3.0 OBJECTIVE LEVELLING
We objective of the fieldwork report is to properly align the investigation and finalize the data
from existing surveys. The main purpose of the field survey is to construct a coordinate
system of the contour of the ground atmosphere. This involves not only the distribution of
data application areas but also the selection and development of a layout or map of the
investigated area.
The major objectives of levelling and contouring in this fieldwork are as follows:
a. Estimate the misclosure error to determine whether equalization is correct and provide an
opportunity to study how and where to record site measurements and calculations using the
required formula.
c. Find the elevation of the given points with respect to a given datum.
d. Teach us the exact way of taking leveling observations and provide opportunities to apply
the fundamentals learned in the course.
e. Enhance our knowledge of leveling procedures and teach us the correct methods for
conducting leveling measurements.
f. Familiarize us with the use of leveling instruments such as a leveling rod, tripod stand,
auto level, bubble staff, and other instruments, and collect data during the fieldwork.
g. Enable us to use measurement methods to find the height between two or more
checkpoints.
h. Facilitate easier understanding and sketching of the plotting part on A3 paper using the
calculated data from the beginning of leveling works.

3.1 OBJECTIVE CONTOURING
Survey is carried out at the starting of any building survey project such as a road, a
railway, acanal, a dam, a building etc.
a.For preparing contour maps in order to select the most economical or suitable site.
b.To locate the alignment of a canal so that it should follow a ridge line.
c.To mark the alignment of roads and railways so that the quantity of earthwork both
incutting and filling should be minimum.
d.For getting information about the ground whether it is flat, undulating or mountainous.
e .To locate the physical features of the ground such as a pond depression, hill, steep or
small slopes

I. We have chosen an area to do the levelling work around UITM Seri Iskandar Perak area.
II. The data that we get form. the adjusted Reduce Level (RL) is at point ( 4.35611 )Our
station starting from the Temporary Bench Mark (TBM) until D4.
IV. All the station has been minimized, but still fully covered our surveying site.
V. We have calculated the distance of each station and the traverse line to be at least 30 m
away from each station.
VI. All the station from Temporary Bench Mark (TBM) until D4 have been ensure that there
are no obstacles between the station and it is on a stable surface.

a. First of all, the staff will be a setup as a benchmark A (BMA) and the instrument at the
level position 1.
b. Hold the staff on the BMA (Datum A.RL 48.825) and take a readingThe staff placed is a
(BMA) and it will be a back sight (BS) because it is the first staff reading after the levelling
instrument has been set up.
C . A mini flag 1a will be planted on the hilly area. Next, for mini flag 1b, pull the measuring
tape from mini flagt 1a by 5 meter. it's to form a 5 meter x 5 meter grid.
D . After that, to mini flat 1c, pull measuring tape by 5 meter from the mini flag 1b and then
once again pull the measuring tape from 1c to make a mini flag 2c Repeat the procedure
until finished to mini flag 3c.
E . Then, after planting all the mini flags have finished, put a staff on a mini flags 1a, take a
reading and it will be the intermediate sight 1a (IS1a). after that, take another staff and put at
the mini flag 1b and reading has been taken.
F. Repeat the procedure 5 which is moving the staff from a mini flag 1c until 3c
G. To find a foresight (FS) reading, put the staff to the next point after finished all the
intermediate sight (IS) reading.
H. staff at foresight (FS) position still remained the same. After that, the levelling instrument
is moved to the middle position between foresight (FS) staff and back sight (BS) staff. Then,
take a back sight (BS) readingHence, this will be a change point 1 (CP1).
I .For the final step, foresight (FS) reading to the benchmark (BMA) will be recorded

6.4 STATION MARKING
- From Temporary Bench Mark (TBM) to D4, we have used wooden pegs to mark it to
make it easier for us to lacate the stations that have been marked

FIG 12 ; CONTOURING STATION
we use a mini flag to marking all is to search 3 kinds of contour lines you'll see on a
map: intermediate, index, and supplementary. Index lines are the thickest contour lines and
are usually labeled with a number at one point along the line the contours to be located are
directly traced out in the ground by locating and making a number of points on each contour.
2. Hold the staff vertically on the datum at Temporary Benchmark (TBM) and take a
reading. This reading will the back sight (BS) because it is the first staff reading after
the instrument has been set up. The reduce level (RL) of Temporary Benchmark
(TBM) is 43.066 m.
3.Move the staff to Station 1 and take a reading. This will be known as fore sight
(FS). The view cannot be diverted until the back sight (BS) reading is taken. It is
called as the change point (CP).
4.Prepare the instrument in setup 2 and take readings from setup 2 to Station 1 as a
back sight (BS).Next, the instrument will be installed at the setup 2 and take a
reading of the back sight (BS) from setup 2 to station 1.The reading from the staff
that has been moved to A2 will be taken. This will be an intermediate sight (IS).
5 .The reading from the staff that has been moved to A3 will be taken. This will be a
fore sight (FS), because after this reading the level will be moved. The distance
between station should be measured and recorder into the field book.
6. Setup the level position 2 and level the staff at point A3, take a reading and this will
be a back sight.
7.Move the staff to B4 and take a reading. This will be an intermediate sight(IS).
8. Move the staff to C4 and take a reading. This will be a fore sight, because after
this reading level will be moved.
9 .Now move the level to the level at Station position 3 and leave the staff at point
C4.

7.0 RESULT & ANALYSIS
During the levelling and contouring practical, our group did the practical at infront
DSI ( DEWAN SERI ISLAM ) . Our group given the Reduce Level (RL) of Bench Mark (BM)
is 20 Sm our group need to make a Temporary Bench Mark (TBM) 27.775m. During the
levelling practical, ott, group repeat two times to close our levelling practical.
The reason why our group didn't close for the first time because one of the members in the
group wrong put in booking. At that day, we calculated our backsight and forseight our
misclosure didn’t close. So that, our group need to do that again. So the second times we do
again and we got misclosure.
The reason why our group make a Temporary Bench Mark (TBM) 27.775 because our group
given task to do the contouring practical. The contouring started at the Temporary Bench
Mark (TBM) that our group make from the levelling more practical. Alhamdulillah, we got
nothing problem when did this contouring practical because all of our group members give
good corporation together.

It is the method which gives the difference of elevation between consecutive points
by comparing each point after the first that immediately preceding it. Rise and fall are
indicated by the difference in staff reading. After that RL is found by adding the rise to
or subtracting the fall from the reduced level of the preceding point.
Height of Instrument :
It is the method which deals with the obtaining of RL of the line of collimation by
adding BS reading of a known RL point. Thus, RL of the line of collimation is called
the Height of Instrument. It is always measured from the benchmark. Hence the
benchmark is the point on the sea derived from mean sea level.
When the table is complete, a check on the arithmetic involved is possible and must
always be applied. This check is

The vertical control is carried out to transfer the heighting from ep 05 to Station 2. It is
also used to establish the new vertical point on the survey area. The levelling has been
carried out to the survey location. The value of CPOS is 49.996. The value of CPOS will
be transferred to each station to get the heighting value. The levelling readings are
shown in the table above. The tolerance is calculated by using 0.012 v 0.03 and the
value is 0.004m So. from the levelling result is accepted because the arithmetic checking
is within the tolerance

8.0 CONCLUSION
To sum up, we had a wonderful experience in completing this fieldwork thus, we also
have gained a lot of knowledge through our site investigation, and even more so about
plotting contour, levelling as well as scaling Our instructor had already provided us the first
reduced level which then we were tasked to take data points of the reduced level and that is
45.000 (RL)Throughout the UiTM Seri Iskandar campus there seem to be 10 stations
surrounding the staff. This levelling method is associated with the very first benchmark (BM),
where it has a backsight (BS) of 1.000 and there is no foresight (FS) for the first station
Alongside the checkpoint at the required position, the auto level transferred towards another
point until completed. We'll revert back to the first (BM) once we've completed each of the
points. And after all that, these measured values were processed and analyzed by us.
The next reduced level and the following after it were obtained by using the methods that
has been teach for us by our lecturer We were capable of completing the calculations of
reduce level through applying the Rise and Fall Method and the Height of Collimation
Method. We just noticed that we've had a 0.015m miscalculations upon recording the table
and data obtained but it was acceptable since the value are in between the misclosure loop.
As a result, a loop misclosure fault should indeed happen. Regardless of the fact that we
incurred certain loop misclosure problems throughout our analyses, we were able to manage
them by developing a method that had been provided in google classroom. We analyze the
correction each set up and change the starting reduced level to get the final reduced level
after we have our loop misclosure inaccuracy. After we have done the corrections, we have
move on to the next part which is the Adjusted RL. In order to get the adjusted RL, the first
reduced level need to be deducted with the corrections and it needs to be accordingly. This
part were done in order to get the first value of reduced level back.
In conclusion, it was though at first for us throughout participating to do this fieldwork, but at
last it could be easy if we work and do this survey work in group as we can learn how to do it
together and get the knowledge plus additional, experienceThis works literally would give the
most great knowledge for us to use it in the present time and the future.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed to making this field work successful.
Alhamdulillah, without all of you, this work could not have been completed. I would also like
to express gratitude to our instructor, Miss Farah Liyana Binti Suhaimi, for her assistance
with this task. Throughout the completion of this task, we encountered numerous challenges.
Initially, I thought it would be easy, but I quickly realized my mistake. The biggest challenge
was the unpredictable weather, which alternated between extreme heat and heavy rain.
However, we had a supportive group of members who helped us overcome these obstacles.

10.0 DIARY OF THE REPORT
These are all pictures taken on the day of fieldwork. we cooperated with each other
to complete this task even though it was a hot day and sometimes it rained we still did this
task diligently with umbrellas. The challenging weather conditions made the task more
difficult, but our determination never wavered. Despite the heat , we persevered and
continued to work as a team. The umbrellas became our shield against the elements,
allowing us to stay focused on capturing every moment. Our dedication and unity shone
through in every photograph we took, showcasing the strength of our teamwork even in
adverse conditions
