discussion, she tackled that in formulating a stem for a test questions, it is very important to
incorporate and consider the Higher-Order Thinking Skills and the Lower-Order Thinking Skills.
A. Higher-Order Thinking Skills- involves doing more that simply recalling facts and repeating
back exactly what has been learned. It also requires the brain to do something (to think)—
building on what the learner has already acquired.
B. Lower-Order Thinking Skills- it is about routine application of previously acquired/learnt
information such as listing information previously memorized, following a taught procedure or
plan, recalling ideas or experiences in a sequence, and answering familiar or practiced
questions.

The SECOND SPEAKER is Sir Geor A. Reyes, Teacher III from the ESP Department. His
topic focuses on the different components of HOTS wherein he presented it through a tabulated
form.

The THIRD SPEAKER is Ma’am Mercelina Q. Sanggalang, Master Teacher I from the AP
Department. His topic rotates on the “Levels of Solo Taxonomy.” During her discussion, she
tackled that there are five levels of SOLO Taxonomy:
1. PRE-STRUCTURAL LEVEL- The user is collecting bits of information and uses irrelevant
data.
2. UNI-STRUCTURAL LEVEL- The learner can learn a single relevant aspect of the subject and
tries to make sense of it.
3. MULTI-STRUCTURAL LEVEL- The learner can understand several aspects and its
contribution as a whole.
4. RELATIONAL LEVEL- The learner learns about all aspects of subjects and its contribution as
a whole.
5. EXTENDED ABSTRACT LEVEL- The learner can make connections not just with the subject
but beyond that.

Though there are five levels of the SOLO Taxonomy discussed by the group, the school
management thru the initiative of the school principal, Sir Omar G. Magcalas then decided to use
only the three levels of the SOLO Taxonomy namely the UNI-STRUCTURAL, MULTI-
STRUCTURAL and the RELATIONAL LEVEL with its corresponding points as 1,3,3 respectively.

The FOURTH SPEAKER is Ma’am Mary Claire D. Pena, Teacher II from the HUMSS
Department. During her discussion, she helps her teacher listeners identify as to what level does
the questions fall whether they are under uni-structural, multi-structural and relational level. She
