Makes use of a variety of resources, including technology. X

Learning activities follow a coherent and engaging sequence. X

Learning outcomes are clearly and properly assessed. X

NOTES

Your planning has come a long way. Make sure you have all the materials you need
throughout the week in advance, remember you will not always have someone in the
classroom with you. You did a nice job incorporating multiple aspects of resources
throughout the lesson. The quilt was a great culminating activity that allowed you to
assess their understanding.

CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT I D B U N/A

Establishes and maintains appropriate rapport with students. X

Demonstrates a commitment to cooperative learning. X

Reinforces classroom routines and procedures. X

Establishes and maintains appropriate standards of behavior. X

Makes effective use of physical space during instruction. X

NOTES

Walking around the room as they complete their activity is a great way to monitor their
understanding of the task. Your confidence has definitely improved as you work with the
students. You seem much more at ease with them as well as in front of the classroom.
The students enjoy having you in the room with them. Offering those reminders for how
students should be behaving or what they should be doing was a good way to get them
back on task. Providing the students questions to think about prior to reading is an
excellent way to give the students something about as they read.

INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY I D B U N/A

Grabs students’ attention with the anticipatory set. X

Follows the lesson plan with appropriate pacing. X

Communicates expectations for learning and participation. X

Asks questions that reflect high expectations for students. X

Provides timely and effective feedback during instruction. X

Seizes opportunities to build on students’ interests. X

Ends the lesson by returning to the learning outcomes. X

NOTES
Reminding them that the activity they completed yesterday was similar, was a great way
to build their background knowledge. When completing the activity on author’s purpose,
have the students expand on why they chose the choices they did. (I chose inform for
this because….). Then you can recap at the end of that briefly, as you did. As you are
discussing the vocabulary, make sure to extend the words and definitions. Possibly
having them provide a sentence or definition will help them extend their understanding.
As the students answer questions, try getting them to expand their thinking or make
deeper connections to the text. I like your idea of giving them picture clues to stimulate
their thinking about the text.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES I D B U N/A

Articulates to what extent learning objectives were met. X

Identifies own strengths and weaknesses during instruction. X

Describes next steps in terms of students’ needs. X

Discusses personal growth since previous observations. X

Maintains standards of honesty and confidentiality. X

Seeks out opportunities for professional development. X

NOTES

I cannot stress the importance of being on time. While I understand things happen,
you need to make sure you accommodate in order to account for things (being behind
buses, etc).
Also, try to be more reflective when you are thinking about your lessons. Take the time
to think about how you could improve upon your teaching or the lesson.
