4.1. Introductory Activity A. Review

Let’s try:
The teacher will ask the students to read the following words
with “ch” and “sh” sound.

B. Motivation
The teacher will show a big box as a dice. Each face of the
dice has a statement and the students are going to roll the
dice and tell whether the statement can be proven true or
just a feeling or a belief for something.

Statements:
Rain falls from the clouds.
Ice cream is cold.
Banana is my favorite fruit.
I love summer.
Basketball is played with only one ball.
Joy’s dog is very cute.

4.2 Activity I. Let’s Pair!
The teacher will ask the students to find a pair.
Each pair will be given 2 sticks with the word Fact and
10 minutes
Opinion. The teacher will then show a picture and a sentence
and the pairs will raise their answers.

II. Story Presentation:

The teacher will post a story on the board. The teacher will
ask the students to read the story and answer the following
questions orally.

Carla is six years old, and she lives in a farm. They have
a big cornfield and a small vegetable garden. Carla likes to
help her mother work in the garden. They have a small white
house and a big red barn. They have two horses, three pigs,
one dog, and one cow.
Carla thinks the horse is nice. She thinks that the pigs are
funny when they roll around in the mud. The dog is her
favorite. But she is not sure about what she thinks about the
cow. The cow is the biggest of all their animals, and it makes
the loudest sound. Carla always runs to her Papa when the
cow lifts its head to MOOOO!

Questions:

3. How many horses do they have? Pigs? Dog? Cow?

4.3 Analysis II. Post Activity (Quiz Bowl) :

(10 minutes) After the activity, the teacher will then group the students
into 4. Each group will be given an illustration board and a
chalk. The students are going to identify whether the
following statements from the story are fact or opinion. In
every statement, each group will be given 2 minutes to write
their answer on the illustration board and raise it altogether
after 2 minutes. The group who will gain the highest points
will be given rewards.

4.4 Abstraction Remember:


(5 minutes)
A sentence states a FACT if it can truly happen and it can be
proven.
A sentence states an OPINION if it can only happen in the
mind of a person ad it cannot be proven to be true.
Examples:
FACT

b. There are twelve months in a year.
c. Saturday is the day after Friday.
OPINIONS:
a. Rich people have cars.
b. Basketball is the best sport.
c. Pink is nicer than violet.

The teacher will then ask the students to give additional


examples of fact and opinion.
4.5 Application
(5 minutes) Group Activity: Let’s find out together!
Using the same group, answer the following.

Instruction: All groups will be given five minutes to answer


the given task.

Direction: A. Identify whether the following sentences states


a fact or opinion. Draw a star ( ) if it is a fact and cloud
( ) if it is an opinion.
