Subject: The use of rusted and old steel for Block work.

Dear Sir,
I am writing to you my concern about the use of rusted and old steel for Block work at the
(development of fishery harbour at madhwad, dist. gir somnath. package-1. marine works (part a,
b & d) project.

I have recently observed that you have been using rusted and old steel for Block work without my
approval. This is a violation of the tender specification, which clearly states that the contractor
must get approval from the Engineer-in-Charge (EIC) before using any material and methodology
for the project. The TMT bar shall be purchased from standard companies i.e., “Tata” or “Ispat” or
as directed by the E.I.C.

The use of rusted and old steel for Block work is a serious safety hazard. Rusted steel is weaker
than new steel and is more likely to fail under stress. The use of rusted and old steel for Block
work could lead to its collapse, which could cause serious injury or death in the future.
I request that you immediately cease using rusted and old steel for Block work. You must only use
new steel after getting approval from E.I.C. that is free from grease, rust, loose scale or dirt. Every
bar must be inspected before assembling on the work and any defective, brittle or burnt bars
must be removed. Cracked ends of bars must be cut out.

Thank you.

Danial Chakkaravarthy,
Project Manager (PMC),
Madhwad Fishery Project.
