INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN IN SCIENCE

Grade Level: Seven (7) Date:

Quarter Second Quarter Time Allotment: 240 Minutes
Content Standard Demonstrate an understanding of the difference between animal and plant cells
Performance Standard Employ appropriate techniques using the compound microscope to gather data about very small
objects.
Learning Competency Differentiate plant and animal cells according to presence or absence of certain organelles (S7LT-
IIc-3) and explain why the cell is considered the basic structural and functional unit of all
organisms (S7LT-IIe-5).
Learning Objectives 1. Differentiate plant and animal cells according to presence or absence of certain organelles 2.
Explain why the cell is considered the basic structural and functional unit of all organisms.
Subject Matter The Plant and Animal Cells
Concept THE PARTS OF THE CELL AND THEIR FUNCTIONS
1. Nucleus- serves as the control center of the cell.
2. Plasma membrane/cell membrane- permits some
substances but prevents others to pass through it.
3. Cytoplasm- a clear, jelly-like fluid that fills the inside
of the cell and surrounds all of the internal structures
and where all the rest of the parts of the cell are found
as well as the hosts of the processes taking place inside
the cell.
4. Vacuoles - are storage bubbles found in cells. They
are found in both animal and plant cells but are much
larger in plant cells that stores much water. Scientists
also called it vesicle in animal cells. Vacuoles might
store food or any variety of nutrients a cell might need to survive. They can even store waste
products so the rest of the cell is protected from contamination. In some species of plant, it
contains a poisonous substance to protect them against their predator.
5. Centrioles- can only be found in animal cells and are structures needed for cell multiplication
that will be taken by you in higher science.
6. Mitochondrion- the powerhouse of the cell since it produces energy necessary for each and
every single cell to perform their jobs.
7. Golgi body/apparatus- the packaging center of the cell.it sorts, modifies, packages cell products
where they are needed.
8. Rough Endoplasmic reticulum- with attached ribosomes that manufacture proteins.
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum- contains no ribosomes. It is the fat and lipids maker.
9. Ribosomes- the manufacturer of protein in the cell.
10. Nucleolus- the structure within the nucleus that produced ribosomes.
11. Lysosomes- the suicide bags of the cell. They destroy cell debris that are not useful anymore.
12. Cell wall- gives shape and protection for plant cells. It is only present in plant cell.
13. Chloroplast- the green organelle responsible for manufacturing food in the process called
photosynthesis. It is only present in plant cell.
Materials Metacards, Powerpoint presentation, pictures and illustrations, etc

b. The teacher will give ten (10) minutes for the students to do the activity.
c. The following are the guide questions that can help the teacher solicit responses from the
students:
1. What can you observe on the pictures?
2. How do animal cell differ from plant cell based on its shape?

Process Skills: Observing, Predicting, Identifying and Communicating

Explore a. The teacher will let the students work by pair.
The teacher will then introduce the rules in the making the activity:
1. No one is allowed to use their gadgets.
2. Do not make unnecessary noise.
3. Do not play with the materials.
4. Finish the activity on time.
b. Each pair will be given forty (40) minutes to finish the activity.
Then, they will be given a worksheet where they will perform the activity.

Guide Questions:
1. What the different organelles present in animal cell?
2. What the different organelles present in plant cell?
3. What the different organelles present in both cells?
4. How do they differ in shape?
5. What gives the plant cell its green color?

After 40 minutes, the students will submit their outputs and the teacher will present and discuss
the correct answer on the power point presentation.

Process Skills: Predicting, observing, identifying, communicating

Values integration: Cooperation, Obedience
Explain a. The teacher will randomly select 5 pairs to present their output in front. The selected pairs will
present their output through a reporting method. They will present their answers based from the
guide questions provided.
b. After the presentations, the teacher will assess the output of each pair and will start his/her
discussion.

c. Presentation and Checking of Outputs:

1. What the different organelles present in animal cell?

Cell membrane, ribosomes, nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi apparatus, lysosomes,
vacuoles, mitochondria, cytoskeleton, cytoplasm, and centriole.
2. What the different organelles present in plant cell?
Cell membrane, ribosomes, nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi apparatus, lysosomes,
vacuoles, mitochondria, cytoskeleton, cytoplasm, cell wall, and chloroplast.
3. What the different organelles present in both cells?
Cell membrane, ribosomes, nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi apparatus, lysosomes,
vacuoles, mitochondria, cytoskeleton, and cytoplasm
4. How do they differ in shape?
Animal cells are irregular or with round shape while plant cells are rectangular in shape.
5. What organelle gives the plant cell its green color?
Chloroplast that contains the green pigment called the chlorophyll.
Process Skills: inferring, communicating
Elaborate With the same pair of students they will perform another activity following the procedures given

by the teacher.

After the short extended activity, the teacher will now introduce the topic of the day.

Skills used by the leaner: communicating, identifying, inferring

Evaluate Multiple Choice.
