UNIT 10

Part 1:
1. Do you like travelling? Why or why not?
- Yes, for sure. Travelling is like a hobby for me. It brings
me a lot of benefits and it’s a wonderful experience every
time. Firstly of all, the more I go, the more experience I
get. Travelling allows me to broaden my horizons about
different places, different people, different cultures and
different kinds of lifestyles which help me to become
more open minded. Secondly, if I travel with my friends
and family members, we can strengthen our bonds and
relationships. We can explore and try new things
together and create meaningful memories that will last a
life time. I can also get a lot of motivation and energy to
work and study better. Last but not least, it helps me to
recuperate from the stress of my work life as well as the
boredom of following the monotonous daily routines of
my life. That’s why I’m really fond of travelling.
2. Do you prefer to travel alone or in group? Why?
- Well, of course I would prefer travelling with a group of
friends or with my family. You know, the more the
merrier so I believe that travelling in company is much
more fun and enjoyable. We can discover new things,
meet different people, enjoy different foods and explore
different places together. There’s always someone who I
can talk to and take great photos of me. It would also be
more cost-effective. I mean, we can split the cost of
meals, accommodation and mean of transport. Honestly,
travelling with other people is safer and we are able to
support as well as rely on each other. Another reason why
I like to travel within a group is that it’s an ideal way to
bond with my friends or family members. We can learn
more about each other, and share experiences together,
which makes it an unforgettable adventure. That’s why
I’m particularly interested in travelling in group.
3. How many famous explorer can you name? What
famous explorers are from your country?
- Well, I know some of famous explorers such as Marco
Polo, Christopher Columbus, James Cook, David
Livingstone. They devoted their lives to the journeys to
explore valuable things for humans.
- In my country, there is a group of explorers including
Hoàng Thị Minh Hồng, Nguyễn Lan Anh, Nguyễn Phương
Anh, Nguyễn Thị Thu Thủy, Nguyễn Thị Phương Ngân and
Lê Tuấn who had a successful voyage to the South Pole to
enhance Antarctica environmental protection.
4. Who has influence you most in your life? Why?
- My mother has influenced me most in my life because
she is a great mother and my best friend. She has taught
me valuable lessons in life and she always takes much
care of me and shares with me almost everything. She
has encouraged me to overcome all difficulties. I am very
grateful to her.
Part 2
1. A: Have you ever gone camping? Where? What are
some great places to go camping in your country? (đi
cắm trại vs 3 cô gái đeo máy ảnh nt với nhau)
- The picture on the left shows a young man and three
girls enjoying their camping trip. They are sitting next to
their tents and playing together. The man is playing the
guitar while the girls are clapping their hands and smiling
happily.
- The picture on the right shows three beautiful girls
visiting a place and they are watching something. One of
them is carrying a camera and the other one is holding a
map. They may like the place very much because they
look very cheerful with beautiful smiles on their faces.
- I have gone camping with my family in Ba Vi once. I got
a lot of exciting and valuable experience and had a great
time there.
- I think people should go camping in some places in the
suburb of Hanoi such as Soc Son, Son Tay, Ba Vi and so
on. They can enjoy more fresh air, outdoor activities,
open air space and beautiful views which can help them
relieve stress and balance their life between work and
relaxation.
B: What are the advantages and disadvantages of
travelling in a group?
- I think travelling in a group can help people feel safer
and happier because they can talk about everything,
support each other and share the cost. However, (the
disadvantage is that) they sometimes have to depend on
their group and they have to do the things they don’t
really like.
2. B: Who would you travel with if you were going on an
adventure vacation? Why? (1 nhóm ng đi du lịch vs 1 ng
đi du lịch)
- The picture on the left shows a group of 4 tourists are
going on holiday, perhaps they are close friends. They are
checking their map in order to choose the best or the
most suitable route to reach their destination. They look
full of energy and excited to go.
- The picture on the right shows a girl who is going on a
holiday on her own with a bulky backpack. She is visiting
a wild place without any people or houses. I think she
may love the nature and want to explore something new
in the wild place like that.
- I would travel with my friends if I were going on an
adventure vacation as it’s much more fun and enjoyable.
We can discover new things, experience strong feelings
together. We can split the cost of meals, accommodation
and mean of transport. It’s also safer and we are able to
support as well as rely on each other. Another reason is
that it’s an ideal way to strengthen our relationship and
create positive memories.
A: What are some challenges for a woman travelling
alone today? Was it more or less difficult for women to
travel alone in the past? Why?
- A woman travelling alone may face some challenges like
being attacked by robbers, being unable to deal with
difficult situations and getting lost easily.
- I think it was more difficult for woman to travel alone in
the past because the means of transport in the past
wasn’t as good and safe as it is today and there were
more social evils.
Part 3
- What necessary things will you bring when you go
camping in the mountains?
+ Food
+ Money
+ Camera/Phone
+ Map
+ Water
A: Shall I start first?
B: Yes, please. Go ahead.
A: I think food is the necessary thing we should bring
with us because we can’t do anything if we are hungry.
Food can bring us plenty of nutrients and energy to keep
active for a long day of activity.
B: Yes, that’s right. We are not sure the local food is
suitable for us and the services maybe far from the camp
site.
A: Yes, I think so. Do you think we need to take some
money with?
B: Yes, of course. If we forget to bring something, we can
buy it on our way. And we can pay for other services such
as a shower or laundry facilities.
A: Yes, that’s true. We also need money in case we meet
an urgent situation. For example, our motorbike may be
broken or one of us is ill.
B: That’s true. I think camera and phone are also very
important. We need some cameras to take as many
photos as we want and our phones can help us contact
with other people to make sure we are safe.
A: Sure. We can also play games, listen to music or watch
films by using the phone if we get bored and tired.
B: Ok. Do you think that we should bring some maps to
find the best way to reach our destination and avoid
getting lost?
A: No, I don’t think so. We should use the map on our
smart phones, which is easier to use and more
convenient.
B: That’s a good idea, and how about water?
A: I think it’s very important for us because the campsite
may be far from the shops and it’s hard for us to buy it at
night. We can find water sources in the mountains but
they may not always safe.
B: Sure, water can help us stay hydrated, which is really
essential for our health. In addition to drinking, we may
also need water for cooking and cleaning.
- What is the most important thing you will choose?
A: OK, so which do you think is the most important thing?
B: In my opinion, money is the most important thing
because when we have enough money, we can deal with
any urgent situation.
B: Yes, that’s true. If we forget to pack something
important or run out of supplies unexpectedly, we can
purchase them. We can also pay for fees and local
services.
A: Exactly, so each of us should bring enough money to
make sure we have a great and memorable camping trip.
B: So we are agreed, then.
Part 4
1. In your opinion, was travel more or less exciting in the
past? Why?
A: Shall I start first?
B: Yes, please. Go ahead.
A: I think travelling was less exciting in the past because
people didn’t have more choices and amenities for their
holidays.
B: That’s right. Besides, the means of transport was not
as good and convenient as it is today. In the past,
transportation options were limited to walking, horse
riding or sailing ships, which was slower.
A: Yes. There were more safety concerns when it came to
travel in the past due to factors like war, disease, crime.
B: Sure. In the past, people had to work very hard for a
low income, so they didn’t have enough money for good
holidays.
A: That’s true. People’s payment is much better than it
was in the past, and they have more free time so they
can enjoy better holidays with many great services.
B: Furthermore, in the past, there was limited access to
information about different travel destinations and
cultures. This made travel planning more time consuming
and uncertain.
2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of
travelling alone?
A: Shall I start first?
B: Yes, please. Go ahead.
A: I think there are some advantages of travelling alone.
The first one is that people can enjoy their total freedom.
They can do whatever they want and they don’t have to
depend on others
B: That’s right. Travelling alone allow people to learn
more about themselves, their preferences. You may also
discover new interests or passions.
A: Yeah. Solo travel can be a great way to challenge
themselves, push boundaries, build confidence and
independence.
B: I agree. When you travel on your own, you may be
more open to meet new people, strike up conversations
and make friends.
A: Sure. What’s about the disadvantages of travelling
alone?
B: Travelling by themselves can be lonely at times,
especially when they are used to being around others. It
can be hard to make friends and find people to share
experiences with.
A: You’re right. I think it’s also more exorbitant because
they can’t share the cost of meals, accommodation and
transportation with others.
A: That’s true. Travelling alone can be riskier than
travelling with others, especially women. They can’t get
help from others when they are in trouble.
B: Besides, planning a trip alone is more challenging than
travelling in group. You have to navigate many things on
your own, which is really time-consuming and stressful.
B: Exactly. That’s why I prefer travelling in a group.
A: Me too.
3. In your opinion, why do more and more people want
to spend time travelling nowadays?
A: Shall I start first?
B: Yes, please. Go ahead.
A: I think one of the reason why more and more people
want to spend time travelling nowadays because they
have to work under high pressure, so travelling is a good
way to escape from usual routines, refresh their mind
and improve work-life balance.
B: That’s right. Besides, many people love travelling
because they want to experience new things, gain a
deeper understanding of the world, the people and
culture. This can inspire them to step out of their comfort
zone to get stronger and better.
A: Yeah. With the advancements in transportation and
technology, cheaper flights, travel between destinations
has become more accessible and more affordable to
more people.
A: OK. The rise of social media has made it easier for
people to share travel experiences with others,
encourage others to travel in order to have their own
unique experiences and share them with social networks.
B: Sure, and another reason is that they have become
more affluent, they have better income and more time
to spend on leisure activities like travel.
A: That’s true.
4. Some people think that travelling is a waste of time.
Do you agree with this opinion?
A: Shall I start first?
B: Yes, please. Go ahead.
A: No, I don’t think so. Travelling can bring people many
benefits. They can build up new skills, develop
independence, confidence and understand more about
themselves.
B: That’s right. Besides, it broadens our horizons about
different places, different people, different cultures and
difference kinds of lifestyle to become more open
minded.
A: Yes. Travelling is also a great way to unwind and
recharge our battery after a long time of hard work. We
can get a lot of motivation and energy to work and study
better.
B: OK. Travelling inspires us to step out of our comfort
zone, over come inner fear and learn to deal with many
situations to support their life.
B: That’s true. It can gives us a chance to meet a lot of
interesting people, make more new friends and
strengthen relationships with old friends.
