ENGL 13011-102

Dr. Shartiy Nelson

October 26 2023

Some things I have learned about visual text analysis in the second essay unit was how to analyze

a movie poster without the words, and analyzing through the color scheme and just over all the small

details and how it correlates to the how and what statement. How the concepts of visual analysis help me

in other courses and writing situations is by making me be able to analyze a picture without words and try

and find out what the picture is trying to convey. So this would really help me if I was taking an art class

in the future.

The way I built upon my knowledge of the drafting and revision process in this second essay unit

was by staying more organized with my notes. Especially when I had my conference with Dr. Nelson, I

took my notes seriously which helped a big part in the end with the revision. How some of the concepts of

brainstorming, prewriting, drafting, and the revision process help me in other courses and writing

situations is by helping me get ideas of what I am writing about first rather than just starting with an

empty canvas, it also helps me just take time and gather ideas.

How conferencing with my instructor helped me improve my visual text analysis essay was by

taking the edits and feedback she gave me to understand the mistakes I made on my visual analysis essay.

It also helped because the first draft is usually bad so the conference helped lead me into the right

direction. 2-3 specific elements of your draft that i changed based on the feedback from my instructor was

my introduction paragraph, I put more description on what the poster was about, and what elements I was

gonna use to convey my what statement.

The way the peer review with my classmate helped me improve the visual text analysis essay

was by giving me extra feedback on top of the feedback given from the professor which just helped me

fix grammar fixes, and helped me fix the way my conclusion was not connecting to my what statement. 1

specific element of my draft that I changed based on peer feedback was just the grammar mistakes, most

of the feedback was already taken in consideration as in how I did the conference before the peer review.

So not much change was taken from the peer review

How did editing and proofreading your visual text analysis essay help you recognize missing

connections between ideas, irrelevant information, and/or confusing expressions in your draft it helped

because when proofreading your essay in your brain you brain can tend to read it and fix the mistakes

without you even noticing, so proof reading it outloud helped me understand how my essay sounded. 1

specific element of your draft that you changed based on your editing and proofreading processes was just

my sentence structure, many of my sentences were complete sentences and did not make complete sense.

How becoming aware of missing elements in your writing helps you prepare for future writing

assignments by being more careful when writing and re reading over everything before turning it in.

The most challenging part of the essay writing was definitely the first draft. The reason it was so

hard was because I kept pushing it back and not wanting to do it so i would procrastinate. How I

attempted to overcome this challenge was by just writing the first draft knowing that the first draft is

allowed to be trash as in it is the first draft the starting point of my visual analysis. What resources did

you consult to address this challenge, whether from course materials, i just overcame the built up

procrastination but i also used the video “sh##ty first drafts' ' How does recognizing this challenge help

you prepare for future writing assignments that i should just do the first draft without procrastination as in

how the first draft is just a starting point to the essay writing process.

What was the least challenging part of this essay assignment, and why was definitely choosing

which visual text i will be analyzing as in how i could choose whichever visual text i wanted. I chose five

nights at freddys as in how it is a visual text that i believed i could do a lot with and it was also a topic

that really interested me. So that is the reasoning on why it was the least challenging part tot the essay.
