General Conventions Analysis
GC1: Lyrics and Visual Narrative
• The video is a performance with an elliptical
(Vernallis) narrative
• The video is set in Milan and New York City, which
is anchored through text and using landmarks
• The genre is rap and the aim of the video is to show
off the luxury lifestyle of the singers
• Various Italian food is mentioned and reflected in
the video
GC2: Genre Characteristics
• The genre of the song is rap, so there are
extravagant clothing and sets, mentions of
substances, and a luxury lifestyle
• The singers are glamorous, have a lot of
body jewellery and tattoos, and are wearing
expensive clothing. They also have rap
video stereotypes such as diamond watches,
sunglasses, and grills.
• The song has an elliptical (Vernallis)
narrative in the video and lyrics, so it is
aspirational
GC3: • There are no visual references in the video except
for these posters and the use of the landmarks
