This week was a very busy week for the sports information department. On Labor Day I
was able to get a couple hours in helping with football headshots, and it really put into
perspective how rigorous doing anything with a football team is. The sheer volume of players
can be very overwhelming and hard to manage, but Kylie handles it really well. The rest of the
week was mainly preparation for the first home football game. There was a lot that went into it
due to the fact that conference rules have changed in regards to streaming, and we are working
with a new streaming platform. The addition of instant replay has also been interesting to learn
how to operate. There was an active lightning delay which pushed back the game by a couple
hours, and learning how the AD and the SID operate in hindrances like that was a great example
I’ve really enjoyed my time so far getting to volunteer, and one of my highlights has
surprisingly been working the soccer games. I’ve never been a huge fan, but I’ve been put in
charge of choraling and managing the ball boys at the games. Saturday after the football game, I
went to the soccer game. I helped my teammates who were doing the ball girl job and explained
the concept and just monitored throughout the game. I wrapped up the week by helping put
everything up from the soccer game. I’m really looking forward to this week, because once home
sporting events really pick up across all fall sports, I will get to have a lot more hands on learning
experiences.
