I. THE PROBLEM
The PISA is alarming to all Filipinos in such a way that the country ranked last in reading
comprehension. As Filipinos it is sad to know that the Philippines ranked last out of 79 countries.
Because of this, the researchers are interested what students want to read during their remedial
reading, especially Grade 11 frustrated readers in Bugang Integrated School. Through this the
researchers can easily recognize what frustration reader students prefer to read during their
remedial reading.

The objective of this study is to raise the reading level of Bugang Integrated School,
starting with the Grade 11 students. Specifically, this study will answer the following research
question:

1. What do grade 11 readers like to read during their remedial reading?


This study is concerned with the reading preference of Grade 11 readers. Other factors
related to their reading are not investigated.
Improving the reading level of Bugang Integrated School students will benefit several
sectors.
 For BIS students, the reading level of grade 11 readers will be improved if the readers are
interested in the material. Soon, they can read difficult text and may become independent
readers.
 Teachers will know which reading materials are suited to entice of grade 11 readers to
read. They can use to their resources to develop these materials to have a more effective
reading program.
 The people of Camiguin will become more literate and have more chance to better their
life.

II. REVIEW RELATED LITERATURE


A study among (please insert the reading preference of Singaporean teenagers) (please
insert automated citation). In New York, avid teenager’s reader like to read traditional print
books, especially nonfiction, where as non-avid readers preferred online newspaper and
magazines (please insert automated citation). Another study in England suggest to create a
culture in which pupils are encouraged to become enthusiastic readers. In this connection the
researchers would like to investigate what frustration readers would enjoy reading to help
improved the reading level of the school.

III. METHODOLOGY

Respondents in this study will be the Grade 11 student readers of Bugang Integrated
School. In Grade 11 there are 12 participant.

The instrument to be used in this research will be interview questions. The interview
questions will be validated by language teachers of Bugang Integrated School.

The permission of the principal will be sought to begin the interviews with the
respondents. The respondents will also be asked to sign the Free, Prior and Informed Consent.
The interview will be recorded on a cellphone and transcribed.

The transcribed interviews will be analyzed via thematic coding. The results will be
disseminated during the oral presentation.
