Leaving A Gap Practice Sew down the line, When you come toa blank space raise the presser foot, move the paper back, and start sewing again. Backstitch at the beginning and end of each black line. Pivot Practice Sew down the line, stopping at each corner point to lift the presser foot, pivot the paper, lower the presser foot, and seethe next line. Overcasting Practice Overcasting is when you sew a zig zag or overcasting stitch on the edge of the material. The overcasting stitch wraps around the edge to finish the edge and bind it so it doesn't fray. For this practice activity, adjust your machine stitch settings to a zig zag stitch, and make the width as wide asit can go. Sew along the bottom edge of the paper, so that the needle moves back and forth on and off of the paper. Imagine that the thread is wrapping over the edge of the paper. You should only see one row of dots, since the other "dots" would be off of the edge of the paper.
