1.0 Scope of work

1.1 General Description
The purpose of this procedure is to set out the cable trunking and electrical &
telephone services to facilitate installation on surface conduit construction in
accordance with the construction drawings, approved shop drawings, approved
materials, project specifications, codes, and standard design.

All workers including local and non-local employed in the project site must attend the
CIDB Green card training and obtained the green card before commencing the work.
Foreign workers must also be ensured to have a valid work permit. The Safety and
Health Officer will inspect and ensure all the workers have valid CIDB green card and
valid work permit before commencing work.

1.6 Standard
The following Standard and Codes of Practice is referred to in prepared of this
method statement.

1.7 Prepatory Work

i. Prior to work started, supervisor shall check the approved electrical shop
drawing, C&S drawing & Architect drawing, setting out, level andset up
alignment.
ii. Check cable trunking sizes and brand as per approved material.
iii. Coordinate with builder for the other utilities services and determine
thetrunking route.
iv. Check conduit sizes and brand as per approved material.
v. Coordinate with builder for the other utilities services and determine the
conduit route.
vi. Should there be any crossing of others utilities services, confirmation of

level shall be obtained before proceeding with actual works at site.
1.8 Construction Procedure

1.8.1 Material Handling & Storage at Site
i. Handling: All materials required are easily handle and loaded.The material
shall be handling with care to avoid any damage before and during
installation.
ii. Storage: The cable trunking and pipe materials will be stored and placed
properly.
1.8.2 Cable Trunking Installation Procedure

i. The size of cable trunking shall be according to required space of the sub-
main cables being laid in the cable trunking.
ii. The trunking is either mounted directly onto the slab/wall or supported on
mild steel angle brackets suspended from soffits or mounted directly onto
the slab or wall.
iii. The finishing of the soffit of slab shall be painting, plastering, etc. prior to
installation.
iv. The edge of the metal trunking shall be made smooth by sandpaper etc. to
ensure that cables are not damage during installation.

v. Upon confirmation the layout of the trunking routes, use a line marker to
mark out the intended routes.
vi. If the trunking is mounted directly onto the slab, the base of the trunking is
secured by post drilled wedge anchors into the concrete soffits of slabs and
beams or wall.
vii. The metal trunking shall be supported at an interval about 2 meter

maximum. The installation of trunking shall be straight and level.
viii. Avoid soffit areas where the tendons of the slab are pre-cast concrete slab.
This is to prevent damage to the slab when the drop-ins are inserted.
ix. Using an electric drill, drill the soffit where the intended points for the drop-
in are located. These drop in are to be used to support the threaded rods.
x. The supporting bracket for the trunking, threaded rod and drop-in anchor
shall be installed and fastened firming on to the slab as described in the
installation of the cable ladders and trays.
xi. Prepare the angle bar/flat bar brackets to size and insert the bracket with
the holes pre-drilled into the treaded rods. Tighten the brackets at desired
height as per co-ordination with nuts.
xii. Install the correct size of trunking and lay the trunking on the supporting
brackets. “Earth continuity link” by using cooper link is installed between
two connections of trunking.
xiii. All the bends of the cable trunking are cut and fabricated not exceeding an
angle of 90 degrees. In the case of a trunking need to be bended at an angle
of 90 degrees, two numbers of 45 degrees bend are to be cut and
fabricated.
xiv. Pieces of woods or etc. are put across the internal wall of the trunking after
cables have been installed. If the trunking cover were opened for
inspection, troubleshooting and etc., the cable in the trunking will not fall
out.
xv. Finally touch up with paint to match the existing colour wherever necessary.

1.8.3 Conduit Installation Procedure
i. The conduit sizes used for the above installation work are either
20mm, 25mm or in diameter to meet the sectional area of wiring
laid.
ii. The conduit shall be laid either parallel or perpendicular to the

building line according to the shop drawing approved by consulting
engineer.
iii. The edge and internal surface of the conduit is to be reasonable

smooth to ensure that the cables are not damaged while pulling
during the installation.
iv. The conduit installed concealed in slab, column and shear wall or
brick wall area.
v. The surface boxes shall be firmly fixed to the construction material.
2.0 SAFETY AND HEALTH

2.1 Job Safety & Health Analysis
Job Safety & Health Analysis shall be carried out on the project site. Barriers and safety
awareness signs shall be established at location of works. The potential hazards in a
particular activity and the control measures implemented shall be briefed to the
workers during safety induction, tool box talk and JSA Briefing. Road works shall be
commenced in accordance to the requirements spelt in Project Safety Health Plan
(PSHP).
2.2 Information to personal

All workers employed in the project site must have valid document. The safety
personnel will inspect and ensure all the workers have valid document before
commencing work.
All the control measures detailed in the job safety & health analysis will be
disseminated to site personnel through:

- Safety Induction Briefing

- Tool Box Briefing
- Notice Board
- Safety & Health Meeting
- Permit to Work etc.
All the attendance records and briefing materials will be maintained and properly
recorded.
The supervisors will be trained based on the approved work method statement which
is including the safety and health, as well as the environmental and quality
requirements. Subsequently, the supervisors will brief the information to the site
workers prior the commencement of work at site.
2.3 Emergency Arrangements

The emergency situations which may occur are shown in the appendix 3.2 for jobs
safety analysis.
2.4 Air Quality and Noise level

All construction machineries shall be in well maintain and in good working condition
to reduce emission of soot, smoke and noise.
The following measures shall be implemented if the above mentioned (soot, smoke
and noise) is deteriorating:
- Increase maintenance frequency

- Replace to better equipment if necessary.
- Switched-off equipment if not in used.
- Supply workers on-site with proper PPE (i.e. ear plugs and mask).
Water jet shall constantly spray the water to minimize the dust especially during hot
weather if any transport operation going on.
2.5 Waste Management

Scheduled waste from maintenance works of machineries, vehicles and tools shall be
placed in designated areas at the site. Proper oil trays shall be placed for oil petroleum
product to prevent oil spillage at ground. Scheduled waste shall be collected and
transferred to scheduled waste storage area. The scheduled waste shall be disposed
by license contractor registered with DOE to approved dump site. Scheduled waste
storage and disposal shall follow EQ (Scheduled Waste) Regulation 2005 accordingly.
2.6 Housekeeping
Housekeeping is an essential part of safety for the daily routine. Housekeeping would
include the following items:
- Maintain the access/egress to all working area.

- No littering around the site and provide sufficient waste bin.
