Etiquette & 'Do's & ‘Don’t’s for Online Classes

For Students

 Students need to be online 5 minutes prior to the lesson and have their books ready when the class
begins, as at school. They may not join the class at different times.
 In preparation for lessons, before classes start, check under Class Material Folder and Class
Notebook for any lesson materials uploaded. Read the material before the lesson to be prepared.
Please make sure to check the time table for the day.
 Students should make sure their devices are fully charged.
 Students should be dressed appropriately.
 Students may NOT start meetings on their own, which results in several meetings happening at the
same time. Join the meeting scheduled by the teacher ONLY.
 Students need to be present and be engaged throughout the duration of the lesson, as at school.
They may not leave in the middle of a lesson and re-join after some time, unless they have got
permission from the teacher.
 Students need to be on mute except when they have been asked to speak by the teacher or there is
a discussion. When participating in discussions, students should take turns to speak.
 When the teacher requests the student to respond he/she should switch on both mic and video
before responding.
 Students may not have food and drink during lessons. They need to have snacks/meals during the
breaks, as at school.
 Attendance will be strictly monitored. Students need to attend all 8 periods every day. Please note
that your login time and logout time for each lesson is recorded automatically and teachers will be
able to monitor if you were in for the duration of the lesson through special attendance tools. You
will need to be at a lesson at least 90% of the time to be deemed present.
 If a student needs to clarify something during a lesson or ask a question, he/she can use the raise
hand feature in Teams. If a teacher is in the middle of an explanation, then jot the question down as
a reminder to yourself or type it into the chat box for the teacher to see.
 Students may not use the chat box for any conversation not related to the lesson. Please note that
slang or other informal language that you might use when communicating online with friends, may
not be appropriate in a classroom context.
 You may also be requested to take a screenshot/photo of your work and paste on the Chat window
from time to time by your teacher to check on your progress.
 Parents are welcome to sit in to help students with any technical / technology difficulties but should
not participate in the lesson itself.
 Students must complete homework given, by the set deadlines, as at school.
 Ensure that you are working in an environment that will allow you to focus on the lesson and that
background activity and sounds don’t disturb you, your classmates and your teachers. Work in a
quiet room, with minimal background distractions.
 Use your Microsoft Account for educational purposes only.
 If you face network/connectivity errors, power cuts or any practical issues which interrupt your
lesson, please inform your teachers.
