Section 1: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Introduction

Tokneneng, sometimes known as tukneneng, is a Filipino street food that

resembles tempura and is produced by deep-frying hard-boiled chicken or duck eggs
covered in orange batter. Kwek Kwek is a common tokneneng variant. Traditional kwek
kwek is produced with smaller quail eggs, a batter formed by soaking annatto seeds or
powder together with water. Tokeneneng and kwek kwek are frequently used incorrectly
interchangeably. Street food sellers frequently serve these alongside kikiam, squid balls,
and fish balls in crowded locations. Additionally, they are typically served with a thickened
sauce made of flour, soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and onions, or a dip made of vinegar, either
spicy or not. The name tukneneng originated from the 1978 Pinoy komiks series Batute,
illustrated by Vic Geronimo and created by Rene Villaroman. In the language of main
character Batute, tukneneng means 'egg' (Kraig, B. 2013).

A pancake (or hotcake, griddlecake, or flapjack) is a flat cake, often thin and round,
prepared from a starch-based batter that may contain eggs, milk and butter and cooked
on a hot surface such as a griddle or frying pan, often frying with oil or butter (Jones, M.
2007).

While kwek-kwek and pancakes hail from distinct culinary traditions, they share
some interesting parallels. Both involve a batter coating, with kwek-kwek featuring a
deep-fried, orange-colored coating made from quail eggs, and pancakes showcasing a
lighter, fluffier batter made from a mixture of flour, eggs, milk, and baking powder. The
cooking methods also align, as both dishes are typically prepared through frying—
kwekkwek through deep-frying in hot oil and pancakes on a griddle or skillet. Despite
these similarities, they serve different culinary purposes. Kwek-kwek is a popular Filipino
street food, often enjoyed as a savory snack, while pancakes are a staple breakfast item
in many Western cultures, typically enjoyed with sweet toppings like syrup, fruits, or
chocolate chips. The size and presentation of the dishes also differ, with kwek-kwek being
bite-sized and served on skewers, and pancakes presented as a larger stack adorned
with various sweet toppings.

Section 4: BUSINESS PLAN PROPER

I. The Problem/Need
A. Description of the Exact Problem

Despite our commitment to providing affordable and health-conscious snacks,

our business faces challenges in both product perception and location-related issues.
Firstly, there's a common misconception that healthier snacks are synonymous with
bland flavors or lack the indulgence of traditional treats. This perception could deter
potential customers from trying our products. Additionally, our current location lacks
visibility, limiting the reach of our offerings to a wider audience.

B. Reasons/Rationale why the problem must be addressed by the business.

Addressing these problems is crucial for the sustained growth and success of our
business. The misconception about healthier snacks hinders customer adoption and
loyalty. Overcoming location-related challenges is essential to expanding our customer
base and maximizing our impact on the market. By tackling these issues, we can
position our business as a go-to destination for both delicious and health-conscious
snacks, appealing to a broader audience and debunking myths about the taste and
accessibility of such products.

C. Description on how business has solved the problem need.

To address the perception issue, we will implement an intensified marketing
strategy focusing on the deliciousness and satisfaction derived from our snacks.
Engaging in social media campaigns, taste-testing events, and partnerships with
influencers will help reshape the narrative around our products. Simultaneously, to
combat location challenges, we will explore strategic partnerships or consider relocating
to a more visible and accessible location, ensuring that our target customers can easily
discover and enjoy our healthier snack alternatives. Through these concerted efforts, we
aim to not only debunk misconceptions but also expand our reach, establishing
ourselves as a trusted and accessible brand in the health-conscious snack market.
