CAN YOU HAVE FUN IN THE PLAYGROUND WITHOUT A BALL?

GENERAL AND SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

The general objectives are:

1. Promote the group work, organize the time and coordination.


2. Practice fair play and respect all the ideas and opinions.
3. Use the iPad as an essential tool for PBL.

The specific objectives are:

1. Work together to learn how to play some of the Spanish traditional games.
2. Talk nicely to all the classmates.
3. Learn traditional games from Spain as from other countries.
4. Explain to all the classmates some Spanish traditional games.

PBL CHARACTERISTICS
During this PBL, the students will learn to organize their time and materials to reach the suggested
objectives. Pupils will work in groups of four to investigate and explain the games.

Moreover, all students will have to do an interview with the eldest person in their family.

Last but not least, they will practice all the games investigated and the ones explained by the PE teacher
during the class.

Project Phases and Stages


The stages of the project are:

1. Life before internet: (2 sessions)


In groups, you have to investigate and learn about one traditional game (the teacher will tell you which
one). Each group will become an expert in one game.
You have to be ready to explain the game to the rest of the class. Each member of the group has to fill
out the stage 1 questions during the second session (this is a checklist to be sure that you have
everything):

The people playing take turns throwing the ball in an attempt to hit the bottle caps.

The object is to hit all four bottle caps in order going from the biggest down to the smallest.

They can only go on to the next smallest cap after they have hit the one bigger.

2. Interview:
Following certain questions, you have to upload a file to Canvas. The last day to upload it is October
31st.
This file has to be an interview with the eldest person in your family. The objective of this interview is
to know and learn the favorite game of that person when he/she was a child.
The file can be of any type; all types of file are accepted (but remember: the better the file is,
the better the grade you will get).

QUESTIONS:

Remember to do a short introduction (For example: My name is_______ and I am going to do an


interview with______)

1. What is your name and how old are you?

2. Where are you from and where did you live when you were a kid?

3. What games did you use to play when you were my age or younger or a kid?

4. What was your favorite game? Why?

5. Where and who did you usually play that game with?

6. How did you learn or who taught you that game?

7. Can you explain to me how to play that game? (people, rules, how)

8. Which equipment did you need to play it? Something special?

9. Would you be able to play it now? Would you like to play now with me?

10. Do you think that kids of today would like to play your favorite game?

11. At school, we played hopscotch, bottle caps, skipping rope, tug of war, etc. Did you play those
games when you were a kid?

12. Can you tell me a story (anecdote) that happened while playing that game?

After the questions, finish the interview. For example: “Thanks for this great interview, I learnt a lot”
