2. Indication For infections due to Staphylococci resistant to benzyl-penicillin. It


is also used for mixed Streptococcal and Staphylococcal infection
when the Staphylococci are penicillin resistant.

3. Strength 250 mg

4. Dose For Adults: 1 capsule (250mg) 6 hourly


In severe infections the doses may be safely increased.

Children: <1 year – 250mg/day; 1-5 years – 500 mg/day; 5-18


years: 1 g in 4 divided doses

5. Instructions on How to Taken ½ to 1 hour before meals


Use
This medication is best absorbed when taken on an empty
stomach.

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to


therapy. In children, the dosage is also based on weight and age.

For the best effect, take this antibiotic at evenly spaced times. To
help you remember, take this medication at the same time(s) every
day.

Continue to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is


finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the
medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which
may result in a relapse of the infection.

Inform the doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

Store below 30ºC. Protect from light. Keep container tightly closed.

Shelf-life: 3 years from the date of manufacture.

12. Contraindications Not to be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to Penicillin.

13. Adverse Reactions The side effects are usually mild and transitory in nature. This may
include skin rashes, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, fever, joint
pains, and angioedema.

Others include: -

Hypersensitivity Reactions: Eosinophilia, pruritus, serum sickness-


like reaction with fever, chills, and myalgia.
Haematologic Effects: Haemolytic anaemia, transient neutropenia,
leukopenia, granulocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis.

Renal Effects: Acute interstitial nephritis, azotaemia.

Hepatic Effects: Intrahepatic cholestasis.
