B. (Engage)
Present an illustration that shows the properties of
waves.

Motivation question: Compare and contrast the

difference between rarefaction and compression?

C. (Explore)
Ask the learners to work with the simple activity
individually at home. Answer the guide questions.

Guide Questions:
1. What direction did the sound moves during
daytime? During nighttime?
2. At what time does sound wave travels fastest?
Slowest?
3. How did it happened that sound travels differently
during night time and day time?

D. (Explain)
Properties of Sound Waves
Like any wave, a sound wave does not just stop when
it reaches the end of the medium or when it

encounters an obstacle in its path. Rather, a sound

wave will undergo certain behavior when it encounters
the end of the medium or an obstacle. Possible
behavior includes reflection and refraction. Ask the
learners to present their work with the previous
activity before the class. The teacher will also provide
clear discussion about the processes of digestion,
chemical and mechanical digestion as well as the
organs involved in the process.

Reflection  turning back of the wave as it hits a

barrier.
Example: echo- reflected sound

Reverberation  multiple reflections or echoes in a

certain place

Refraction  a change in the direction of waves as

they pass from one medium to another.
 Bending of waves
Sound waves travel slower in cooler air than
in warmer air.

 When a sound wave propagates in the air

with temperature which changes with
altitude, refraction happens
 travels from air of higher temperature to
lower temperature
E. (Elaborate)
Let the learners raise questions for clarification of the
discussion. (The teacher will provide again the
illustrations for student’s reference of the lesson)

F. (Evaluate)
Complete the following sentences by supplying the
correct term.
1. Bouncing back of waves as it hit the wall _______
2. Waves tend to bend _________
3. Sound being reflected _________.
4. Watching movie on a theater is an example of
_________.
5. Singing in a bathroom is an example of multiple
sounds reflected _______.
G. (Extend)
Read more about properties of sound waves.
