VSU MISSION
Development of a highly competitive
human resource, cutting-edge scientific
knowledge and innovative technologies
for sustainable communities and
environment.
VSU VISION
A globally competitive university for
science, technology, and
environmental conservation.
B. PROGRAM GOALS
WORLD-CLASS EDUCATION. Visayas State University (VSU)
will be recognized as one of the premier universities in Asia,
offering affordable world-class education to produce highly
competent human resources in science and technology
(S&T), especially for agriculture, environmental
management, and industries.
GLOBALLY COMPETITIVE S&T. Research is the engine of
innovation. Technologies and the information generated by
research improve the socio-economic status and build the
resilience of vulnerable groups.
EMPOWERED COMMUNITIES. The instruction and research
programs of VSU contribute to societal progress, but it is
through its extension programs that the university brings
about a direct and immediate effect on society. In the next
10 years, VSU will strengthen its community engagement
for community empowerment.
SUSTAINABLE RESOURCE GENERATION. The university is
endowed with vast natural resources and pool of experts
vital for creating income-generating projects that will help
augment the resources provided by the government. The
challenge is to strike a balance between continuing the
pursuit of excellence while maintaining environmental
conditions that will support present and future generations.
CLIENT-CENTERED GOVERNANCE. More exciting
opportunities in exchange of information in science and
technology come in positioning VSU in the arena of ASEAN
integration. We embrace the responsibility as a research
university to build up experts engaged in effectively serving
our clients – parents, students, farmers, entrepreneurs,
policymakers, and technologists by making our science and
technology products more accessible.
VERSATILE SPACES FOR INNOVATION. Spaces are
important for innovation. We would like to build upon the
lessons of VSU’s visionary leaders: versatile spaces are
conducive for deliberate and serendipitous encounters
where great ideas brew and flow.
STRONG ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT. VSU alumni are college
graduates of BNAS, VAC, ViSCA, and VSU as well as
secondary school graduates of ERHS, VLHS, and VSULHS, all
organized into the VSU Alumni Association. Students who
did not finish their college education at VSU will be
considered associate members if they desire to apply as
such.
OBJECTIVES

MY
WEEKLY
JOURNALS
FIRST SHIFT:
WEEKS 1 – 8
SECOND SHIFT:
WEEKS 9 – 12
WEEK 1
This was my first week as an intern and I was deployed to
Alangalang National High School. I was both excited and nervous
because I graduated high school there and I know most of the
teachers in the school.
On the first day, we went first to the office of the principal.
Then, we picked papers randomly to know who our cooperating
teacher will be. I picked Ma’am Donna Mae O. Macayan, a Grade 8
Mathematics teacher that handles two regular class sections and two
Special Program in the Arts (SPA) sections. I became more nervous
because my cooperating teacher was not familiar to me. Thankfully,
she was a very kind and accommodating teacher. She was also very
considerate and understanding cooperating teacher.
During the whole first week, I was told to observe the
classroom during discussions. I introduced myself to each class and
was very nervous. My cooperating teacher told me that he would let
me handle three (3) loads or classes, one regular class and the two
SPA classes. My cooperating teacher also told me about which lesson
will I begin with, and provided me a copy of the Most Essential
Learning Competencies (MELCs). She also told me to prepare a
lesson plan for that lesson as early as possible, so that she can give
suggestions and corrections first before delivering the lesson. She
also gave me some tips and pointers on how to manage each class.
Lastly, she told me about my responsibilities especially in the
advisory class. Though I will not be teaching in the advisory class, I
am still responsible for keeping the room neat and clean at all times.
We clean the room before first period starts, and after the last
period ends.
WEEK 2
This week was the first week where I will be teaching. I
was very nervous and tensed. I had already prepared my
visual materials and was cutting adhesive tapes to not waste
time during the discussion. My first class was at 10:00 a.m.,
so I had a little bit of time to prepare. Later, it was almost
time for class so I finalized everything and went to the
classroom. The discussion started, and my knees were
shaking. The words I said were sometimes unclear because of
how nervous I was, especially because my cooperating
teacher was observing the discussion from the back. But, my
nervousness slowly faded as we went on with the discussion
because I felt more and more relaxed as I observed that the
learners were eager to listen and were focused on the lesson.
They also participated during group activities and seatworks.
My nervousness turned into gladness as I noticed that the
time was almost over and they were almost done copying
their assignment. This happened again during my next
classes. I was really nervous at first, but that slowly went
away and was replaced with fulfillement and satisfaction,
especially after my last class on the afternoon.
During the following days, I began to slowly feel more
confident and ccomfortable around the students and my
cooperating teacher. The awkwardness I felt before gradually
faded because of how welcoming the students are. I was
really happy to be able to teach them.
WEEK 3
This week was the 3rd week of my
internship in Alangalang National High
School. The first two weeks have been
amazing and this week was great as well. I
started to be more comfortable with my
students and they were also comfortable
with me. We continued our lesson from
last week and had a short quiz.
We had a numeracy test this week and
I was the one who checked their answers.
I was also the one to conduct the test.
Some students got a passing score on the
test, and some got average scores.
Unfortunately, some students had
difficulties on the test and got low scores.
By the next day, I showed them how to
answer the test and they learned the
problems they got mistakes.
WEEK 4
This week was the 4th week of our internship
journey. We continued with our discussions and
had group activities. The students loved group
activities because they liked working together
with their classmates.
I discovered how impactful a positive
environment can be on student learning. It helped
to make learners become more enthusiastic and
to actively engage in the learning process. They
were participative and were interactive during
discussions.
This week was a busy week because of the
preparations for the upcoming Acquaintance
Party. I was tasked by my cooperating teacher to
prepare parlor games and prizes for the party. I
gathered some suggestions from my students and
fellow interns to have the most enjoyable games.
The Acquaintance Party was fun, and everybody
was full and had a great time.
WEEK 5
This was the 5th week of my internship
journey at ANHS. We reviewed our discussions
from the last meeting and continued where we
left off. I also reminded the classes I handle that
there might be an observation next week.
Creating lesson plans have been both an
exhausting and fun experience for me. I always
tried my best to be able to prepare lesson plans at
least a week before the actual discussion. This is
because I want my cooperating teacher to check
first my lesson plan for suggestions and revisions.
It was fun because of the things I learned while
preparing lesson plans. It became a sort of review
for me as well because I have forgotten most of
the lessons.
This week was also a busy week because of
the preparations for the upcoming World
Teachers’ Day. Me and my fellow teaching interns
prepared gifts and balloons for our cooperating
teachers and for the teachers who have been our
teachers before. It was a fun experience.
WEEK 6
This week has been an important week for me
because I had my demonstration this week. I had
prepared a powerpoint presentation and visual
materials for the demonstration. I also had my
lesson plan finalized, thanks to my supportive
cooperating teacher who checked my lesson plan
even on weekends. Everything was ready for the
demonstration except for me. I was really
nervous.
The time for my observation was at 11:00
a.m., and I was already at the classroom setting
up the SMART TV and all the visual materials. My
Teaching Intern Supervisor, Ma’am Dulce E.
Catindoy, arrived at the classroom and I started
the discussion. I was really nervous from the start
to finish because I was not really used to having
teachers observing me. 12 o’clock arrived and I
dismissed the class. It was a great relief for me
after the class was dismissed. I am thankful for
the experience because it was my first time doing
a demonstration.
WEEK 7
This is the 7th week of my internship in ANHS. This
was also my last week of teaching in my classes
because next week will be their First Quarter
Examination, and is also our last week at the school. I
was able to finish all the lessons for the quarter and I
also gave them a quiz. I also provided them a reviewer,
which contained a compilation of all the lessons for the
quarter. It was also a very busy week because we have
been finalizing class records, attendance, and many
more.
I learned a very important lesson this week. It is all
about time management. I had a difficulties in
managing my time well, so all the records have been
stocked. This resulted for sleepless nights to spend
more time on recording the learners’ activities and
papers. Thankfully, I was able to finish them on time.
Time management is a crucial skill for me as a
teaching intern, as it plays a pivotal role in ensuring
efficiency, effectiveness, and a balanced approach to
various responsibilities.
WEEK 8
This was the last week of my internship at
Alangalang National High School. It was also the
examination week of the learners. My
cooperating teacher told me that she will be the
one to conduct the tests. I stayed at the library to
clean the area and packed my things.
After their examinations, I went to my
students to say goodbye and we took photos. I am
grateful to them for making my internship
fulfilling and rewarding. I am also thankful for
them for welcoming me as their teacher and
being always eager to learn the lessons.
I also went to my cooperating teacher and
expressed my gratitude by giving some presents. I
will forever be grateful for her guidance and
support throughout my internship at ANHS. As I
move forward in my internship, I carry with me
the invaluable lessons and wisdom my
cooperating teacher have shared.
WEEK 9
It was the first week of the 2nd shift of my internship. I
was assigned at Alangalang Agro-Industrial School. The
pirincipal assigned us to cooperating teachers, and I was
assigned to Ma’am Carisa R. Baldesco. I was surprised
because she was also a Grade 8 Math teacher. She handles
four (4) Grade 8 Mathematics and one (1) Grade 9 English.
She let me handle two classes, and told me that there will be
times where I will have to teach also the other classes other
than the two I handle.
I introduced myself to the learners and was
overwhelmed with the welcoming and positive environment.
They were all very friendly to me. I also liked how respectful
they are to me. They were also very disciplined when it
comes to cleanliness. They always observed cleanliness in
their surroundings.
My cooperating teacher let me teach during the first
week, after a few days of observing. I was really nervous at
first, but it later went away because of how fun it was to
teach them. I really enjoyed teaching them, especially
because of how well they listen and participate.
Me and my fellow interns have been given an opportunity to
participate in an activity. It was about the Town Anniversary.
We were included as participants. It was a very fun and
enjoying experience.
WEEK 10
It was the 2nd week of my internship at
AAIS and everything was great. I have gotten
along with my students and is already familiar
with them.
My cooperating teacher told me to teach
the advisory class this week, and I was a little
excited because it was my first time teaching
them. The discussion went well and I enjoyed
teaching them.
I learned today that it is impportant to
build positive relationships with the students.
Having mutual trust and respect with your
students help create a conducive
environment for learning as they become
more confident and comfortable to
communicate, participate, and engage in the
learning process.
WEEK 11
This was the 3rd week of my internship at
AAIS. We continued with our discussions and
had a short quiz. I am happy with the results
of their quizzes because most of them got a
passing score, and a few of them got perfect
scores. It is very delightful and satisfying for
me because it means that I was able to teach
them properly.
My cooperating teacher told me to teach
the other class. Their lesson is a little bit
behind the lesson I was currently teaching to
my other classes. Thankfully, I had my visual
materials kept so I had no problems teaching
the class. I had a difficult time adjusting to
them because they seem a little different
from my other classes. They had a different
pace in learning and it was hard for me at
first. It was a different but fun experience for
me.
WEEK 12
It was a very busy week for me. It was the last week of
my internship at AAIS and it was also the week for my final
demonstration. I really had a hard time preparing for my
demonstration. I am grateful to my cooperating teacher for
being supportive and for checking my lesson plan for the
demonstration. My TI Supervisor announced that we had to
record our demonstration because she will not be able to
observe.
The time for my demonstration has come and I was
already prepared. I am thankful to my cooperating teacher
because she let her phone be used for recording the
demonstration. I was a little nervous at first, but as we went
on, it was really fun and exciting. I was glad because the
learners enjoyed all the activities I prepared. They were also
participating during the discussion. The demonstration ended
and it was very satisfying. I was relieved because everything
went well.
During the following days, I informed my students that it
was my last week teaching them, and that I was grateful to
them for being the best students I can ever have. I also
thanked my cooperating teacher, Ma’am Carisa R. Baldesco,
for being supportive and understanding. I am thankful for all
the lessons I learned from her and I promise to try hard to
further enhance my skills.
