1. INTRODUCTION
1.1. Background
The Tangguh Flare System provides the safe disposal of waste hydrocarbon vapor and liquid streams from
the LNG process. The Tangguh flare system comprises a wet flare (086-FL- 1002), a dry flare (086-FL-
1001) and a tankage flare (086-FL-1003) for disposal operations. Wet and dry flare are independent
operation with different flare system characteristics with no spare, in addition dry and wet flare have
different flame characteristics therefore relying on operational surveillance and inspection of the flare tip to
optimize and schedule replacement. Drone inspections have been done in 2019 and have revealed
deterioration in the dry and wet flare tips condition.
Figure 1 shows inspection result for dry flare conditions as summarized below:
- The wind shield is tilted and deformed gap growth in 2019 compare to 2015.
- Crack in windshield.
- Crack and deformed flare tip were found in 2019.
- Weather proof deformed (086-TE-3102 and 086-TE-3104).
- Weather proof missing (086-TE-3103).
Figure 2 shows inspection result for wet flare conditions as summarized below:
- The wind shield is tilted.
- Deformed flare tip was found in 2019.
- Crack in the wind shield.
- Weather proofs in the pilot are broken and missing.
Regarding this condition, it is recommended to replace existing Dry Gas Flare Tip and Wet Gas Flare Tip.
In order to execute this project, FlareNet verification is required to be done during Dry Gas Flare Tip and
Wet Gas Flare Tip replacement.
The strategy for the replacement will be done by constructing two (2) jumper lines to connect existing flare
headers (Wet Flare and Dry Flare) to TEP flare future connections and conducting hot tap and stopple for
both wet flare (36”) and dry flare (34”) at downstream existing KO Drum. No train shutdown expected
during replacement works. This option can be seen at Figure 3 for schematic on dry flare system and
similar concept for wet flare system.

9. CONCLUSION
Based on given condition in the structural analysis, the design of Pipe Rack 186-PRK-4006 is considered
adequate in meeting the design criteria.
10. CALCULATION
10.1. Load Case
10.1.1. Dead Load
All self weight of structural steel shall be calculated with STAAD.Pro 2007.
The wind load will be applied on columns, main beam and vertical braces.
At El. +26.600
qz at H = 11.5 m = 1.00
D max = Diameter of largest pipe (pipe 34") = 0.86 m
D ave = Diameter of average pipe = 0.81 m
B = Usable width for pipe = 6.50 m
L = Length for pipe = 10.50 m
Csused = 0.155
Vs = Seismic base shear = 0.155 * ƩWt
= Cs * ƩWt
The total of seismic base shear (Vs) shall be distributed prorate as point load at each of column in
accordance with the following formula :
Wi x hi Wi : Dead Load
Fi = Vs x
S (Wi x hi) hi : Story Height
Figure 24 - Peak Incident Pressure vs Peak Dynamic Pressure, Density of Air Behind the Shock Front, and
Particle Velocity
T = Duration = 0.15 s
Figure 25 - Maximum Deflection of Elasto-Plastic, One-Degree-of-Freedom System for Triangular Pulse Load
Blast load to structural member will be generated by StaadPro using application of wind load Type-2 for
transverse direction and wind Type-3 for longitudinal direction.
Blast pressure load due to piping was evaluated by the following equation (refer to Ref. 2.1.6 Table 3).
Since piping is on pipe rack, the same DAF of pipe rack structure considering structure ductility will be
applied for blast load due to piping and equipment.

Particle Velocity
T = Duration = 0.15 s
Figure 27 - Maximum Deflection of Elasto-Plastic, One-Degree-of-Freedom System for Triangular Pulse Load
Blast load to structural member will be generated by StaadPro using application of wind load Type-4 for
transeverse direction and wind Type-5 for longitudinal direction.
Blast pressure load due to piping was evaluated by the following equation (refer to Ref. 2.1.6 Table 3).
Since piping is on pipe rack, the same DAF of pipe rack structure considering structure ductility will be
applied for blast load due to piping and equipment.
