DAYLIGHT ANALYSIS:

Daylight hours in Nottingham plays a very significant role in deciding the building
orientation and placing of spaces within an envelope. The reason variation from Mid-
March to October-end and November to Mid-March is angle of Earth.

Post Autumn Equinox, maximum daylight is approximately 12 hours and gradually

decrease to 8 hours a day. The rise in daylight hours start from Spring Equinox.

This variation in daylight leads to drastic temperature difference. Temperature is at

peak in months of July or August of about 28°C while January is coldest month
averaging 2.9°C. Average Temperature ranges 4°C-13°C

DESIGN CONSIDERATION:

Glazing for capturing Sunlight in Winter season for comfort.

For thermal comfort, use of energy efficient system or HVAC or thermal

insulated.

WIND ANALYSIS:

The average hourly wind speed in Nottingham experiences has seasonal

variation in a year.

Months from October to March, is windier with average wind speeds of

more than 11.5 Mph. On the contrary, from April to September is calmer,
with an average hourly wind speed of 9.6 Mph. The Highest & Lowest
Wind Velocity recorded are 13.5 Mph (in January) and 9.5 Mph (in July)
respectively.

DESIGN CONSIDERATION:

Flow of wind is mostly from West and South-West directions throughout

the year, which is suitable for windows or any other openings.

If possible, we can use wind for generation of energy and be stored for
later use.

DESIGN CONSIDERATION:

1.Due to high Solar Radiation in summer

season, overhangs to be provided on
North side for shading.
2.Glazing on South side to maximise sun
exposure.
3.Organization of floorplan so winter sun
penetrates daytime.
