1.2 History
Banu Mukhtar owes its name to late Sheikh Mukhtar Ahmad who migrated from India in
1947 and got settled in Montgomery (now Sahiwal). He left behind five renowned sons
namely Izhar Ahmad, Dr. Israr Ahmad, Iqtedar Ahmad, Vaqar Ahmad and Dr. Absar
Ahmad. Ever since 1960, construction and production of Pre-Cast Concrete Products was
a family business. Izhar (Pvt) Ltd. (Now Banu Mukhtar Contracting (Pvt.) Limited after
change of name in 2012), the ACE Company of Banu-Mukhtar, was founded in 1964 by
Sheikh Mukhtar Ahmad’s eldest son Mr. Izhar Ahmed who was a Civil Engineer by
profession.
After a split in the family business in 1977, Mr. Iqtedar Ahmad, who was previously
managing another company doing similar business, took charge of Banu Mukhtar
Contracting (Pvt.) Limited independently and remained the chief executive of the company
till 1983 at which time he handed over the charge to his eldest son Engr. M. S. Asad
Mukhtar and adopted an advisory role for himself.
Since 1983 Mr. M. S. Asad Mukhtar is the Chief Executive of the Company and Chairman
of the Group working under the banner of Banu-Mukhtar.
Elder son of Mr. Asad Mukhtar, Umar Asad Mukhtar, joined Banu Mukhtar as director in
2008 and since then he is taking charge of the baton from his father and is now leading the
re-alignment of organizational structure and business models.
Starting from a very small family construction business, under the leadership and
management of M. S. Asad Mukhtar, Banu Mukhtar Contracting (Pvt. Ltd. has evolved
into a big name in construction and contracting industry of Pakistan with its sister
companies, notably Banu Mukhtar Products (Pvt.) Limited which is engaged in production
and supply of a large range of Precast Concrete Products with area offices and plants
spreading all over the country and Banu Mukhtar Steel (Pvt.) Ltd which is manufacturing
Pre Engineered Steel Buildings and involved in Mechanical Fabrication works.

CHAPTER 3
3.1 Conclusion
This Internship program is proved to be a bridge between the student life and professional
life. The various types of tasks and trainings that I have been undertaking during this
internship on the site and the office enhanced our knowledge in building construction. I am
very glad to see that what I have learnt in the university can be a repeated in the real world.
I was able to apply my theoretical knowledge of designing and construction works in the
real life situation. This internship program played an important role on facing real
challenges. I am attaining a high level of confidence to deal with problems that arise in a
building construction. During this internship I had been able to see the different theoretical
aspects, methodologies and how to construct a certain building. In the supervision session,
I have been able to see the important theoretical and practical aspects of building
construction.
3.2 Recommendation
I would like to recommend every person on the site to perform the necessary tasks. In many
sites I went, the workers did not use safety wearing like helmets and gloves to protect them
from accidental hand and head injuries. Therefore, we are recommending the workers of
any company to wear safe wearing in order not to overcome an accident. The department
of Civil Engineering and Technology should prepare such type of practical section
repeatedly with favorable time schedule and resource concern. If possible it would be better
to go on job training at the time of theoretical lessons. Finally, internship program must
continue since, it provides the students with knowledge of the real site work and it also
helps them to practice the theoretical knowledge with experimental engineering skills.
