SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 6

January 17, 2024
I. OBJECTIVES :
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
Cognitive: identify the process of separating mixtures through filtering and sieving;
: differentiate filtering from sieving;
Affective: show cooperation during the activities;
Psychomotor: classify mixtures as to filtering or sieving.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Content: Separating Mixtures Through Filtering and Sieving
B. Skill: Observing, describing identifying, analyzing, explaining, communicating
C. References:
- Curriculum Guide: pp.
- Teacher’s Guide: pp.
- Learner’s Material: pp.
D. Other Learning Resources/Materials: Real Life Objects/Materials, powerpoint
presentation, video lesson, interactive board, cartolina, manila paper, pentel pen,
pictures/illustrations, materials of experiment (garden soil, water, cloth filter, 2
basins, rubber bands, 2 wide-mouthed clear jar, filter)
III. PROCEDURE
A. Engagement:
1. Review:
Say: Today, we are going to play a game, GAME KA NA BA?
a. Identify the following pictures whether it is Homogenous or Heterogenous
mixtures.
a.1 a.3

a.2 a.4

2. Motivation:
a. Show materials for experiment for lesson presentation of filtering (calamansi
juice) and sieving (sand and gravel). Then, let the pupils perform the activity
then let them identify the process (filtering/sieving).

Presentation:
a. Explain, filtering and sieving.
b. Inform pupils that there are different ways to separate mixtures.

3. Exploration:
Let the pupils perform the Activity 6, entitled, 1,2,3 Go!
A. Experimenting
Task A
1. On the upper part of the plastic bottle, put cotton, sand, pebbles, charcoal, and
gravel. It will serve as your improvised filter.
2. Gradually pour the muddy water in your improvised filter.

Task B
1. Prepare a clean plate that will serve as receptacle.
2. Use the strainer and transfer the mixture of rice grain and salt.
3. Shake it slowly.

B. Observing and Comparing:

Task Description
What have you observed in Task
A?

What have you observed in Task

B?

C. Explanation
1. After the activity, let the students answer the following questions:
a. What is the difference of filtering and sieving?
b. Can you name some activities at home that uses the process of filtering and
sieving?
D. Elaboration:
Put a √ in the column where appropriate technique of separating
mixtures is applicable.
Mixture Filtering Sieving
1. Water from the faucet
2. Milk from grated coconut
3. Mongo from flour
4. Baby powder from pebbles
5. Stones from water
