2
CIRCUIT ELEMENT MODELS (1)

 Following steps are followed to analyse the circuits using Laplace

Transform:
 Transform the circuit from time domain to s-domain
 Solve the circuit using nodal analysis, mesh analysis, source
transformation, superposition, or any circuit analysis technique you
are familiar with
 Take the inverse Laplace Transform of the solution and thus obtain
solution in the time domain

INITIAL CONDITIONS

 One significant advantage of Laplace Transform is that it includes

both initial and steady state conditions
 This allows for obtaining both the steady state and the transient
response
 The s-domain equivalent elements can be readily used in first
order and second order circuits

ZERO INITIAL CONDITIONS

7
IMPEDANCE

 Ratio of the voltage transform to the current transform under

zero initial conditions

8
DEPENDENT SOURCES

 Models for dependent sources are easy to develop

 Dependent sources have linear output based on the input

 In Laplace Transform, multiplying the time domain equation by a

constant results in the same constant multiplied against the
Laplace Transform
