CHEER LEADING
 is an event that consists of cheers and organized routines for sports team motivation, audience
entertainment, or competition.

 Has routines that contain components of cheers, jumps, dance, gymnastics, and stunting.

CHEER LEADING DANCE TECHNIQUES


⦁ Jazz
⦁ Hip-hop
⦁ Modern dance
⦁ Contemporary ballet
⦁ Ethnic or folk dance

 Various dance techniques may be used in cheer dance competition depending on the competition
requirements.

ELEMENTS OF CHEER
 Cheer Motion - are used to lead the crown and emphasize words for crowd response.
 Basic Gymnastic Skills - Cheer dance incorporates simple gymnastic skills such as jumps and tumbling to
add to the thrill of the game and effect of a routine.
 Music Section - plays a vital role in cheer dance routine as it sets the tone and pace, as well as adds to the
creativity of the choreography. It also motivates both the cheerleaders and the spectators.
 Cheer Section - it shows support for the school program

CHEERDANCE COMPETITIONS IN THE PHILIPPINES


 National Cheerleading Championship (NCC) - The first and only nationwide cheerleading organization that
held regional Qualifying Competitions in the country.
 University Athletic Asscociation of the Philippines (UAAP)- Holds annual cheer dance and cheerleading
competitions only consisting of the universities in Metro Manila.
 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) - also holds annual cheer dance and cheerleading
competitions only consisting of the universities and colleges in Metro Manila.

BASIC HAND – BODY MOVEMENTS


• Beginning Stance – Feet together, hands down by the side in blades.
• Cheer Stance – Feet more than shoulder width apart, hands down by the side in blade.
• Clasp – Hands clasped, at the chin, elbows in.
• Clap – Hands in blades, at the chin, elbows in.
• High V – Arm extended up forming a “V”, relax the shoulders.
• Low V – Arms extended down forming a “V”
• Touchdown – Arms extended straight and parallel to each other, fist facing in.
• Low touchdown – Arms extended straight down and parallel to each other, fist facing in.
• Bow and Arrow – One arm extended to side with other arm bent at elbow in a half “T” motion.
• Punch – One arm extended straight up, one arm on hip, in a fist.
• L Motion - One arm extended to the side with other arm extended in a punch motion, (Left L shown).
• Diagonal - One arm extended in a high “V” and the other arm extended in a low “V” (Right Diagonal

• Jump - requires stamina, strength, and flexibility.
• Tumbling - it may be executed simultaneously by several tumblers or the entire squad

INJURY RISK FACTORS


: Any damage to your body and it can can be caused by accidents or acts of violence, and may occur at home,
work, or play.

TYPES OF INJURIES

ACUTE INJURIES
It occur when there is sudden stress on the body.

Three main causes:


 Collisions with opponents or obstacles.
 Being struck by any object.
 Falling from a height or at speed

CHRONIC INJURIES

 are caused by continuous stress on a body part over a long time.


 Caused by training too hard, not allowing time for recovery, poor footwear and bad technique.
 Overuse injuries occur due to repeated powerful muscle movements.

COMMON INJURIES

 DISLOCATION: a separation of two bones where they meet at a joint.

 BRUISE: forms when blood vessels under the skin break.

 SPRAIN: overstretching or tearing of a ligament

 FRACTURE: It is a break, usually in a bone.

 WOUNDS: It is a break in the continuity of a tissue in the body.

 CONCUSSION: a type of traumatic brain injury.
