QUARTER 4: PHYSICAL EDUCATION 10

CHEERDANCE

CHEERDANCE- is coined from the words cheer and dance.


Cheer- is to shout out words or phrases that may well motivate team and perform better during the Game.
Dance- on the other hand, is a physical activity where one expresses emotions or gestures while
performing bodily movement usually in time with rhythm.

CHEERLEADING- is an activity in which the participants (called "cheerleaders") cheer for their team as a form of
encouragement. It can range from chanting slogans to intense physical activity. It can be performed to motivate sports
teams, to entertain the audience, or for competition.

Hand Movements and Positions in Cheer dance


BEGINNING STANCE- Feet together, hands down by side in blades.
CHEER STANCE-Feet more than shoulder width apart, hands down by the sides in blades.
CLASP- Hands clasped, at the chin, elbows in.
CLAP- Hands in blades, at the chin, elbows in.
HIGH-V- Arms extended up forming a “V”, relax the shoulders.
LOW –V -Arms extended down forming a “V”.
TOUCH DOWN- Arms extended straight and parallel to each other fist facing in
LOW TOUCHDOWN- Arms extended straight down and parallel to each other, fist facing in
SIDE LUNGE- Lead leg bent with the knee over the ankle, back leg straight, feet perpendicular to each other.
FRONT LUNGE- Lead leg bent with the knee over the ankle, back leg straight, feet perpendicular to each other.
BOW AND ARROW- One arm extended to side with other arm bent at elbow in a half “T”motion.
OVERHEAD CLASP- Arms are straight above the head in a clasp and slightly in front of the face.
TABLETOP- Arms bent at elbow, fists in front of shoulders.
LOW CLASP- Arms extended straight down in a clasp and slightly in front of the body.
PUNCH- One arm extended straight up, one arm on hip, in fist.
L MOTION- One arm extended to the side with another arm.
DIAGONAL- One arm extended in a high “V” and the other arm extended in the low “V” (Right diagonal shown).
T MOTION- Both arms are extended straight out to the side and parallel to the ground, relax the shoulders.
HALF T- Both arms parallel to the ground and bent at the elbows, fists into shoulders.

TERMS IN CHEERDANCE
1. Base- In acrobatics gymnastics, the role of the pair and group competition that requires strength and balance.
The base is usually an older or larger athlete.
2. Cartwheeel- is a sideways rotary movement of the body. It performed by bringing the hands to the floor one
at the time while the body inverts.
3. Chant- a short cheer, with a simple arm movement.
4. Chassē- is a kind of gallop where one foot is leading being chased by the other.
5. Cheers- a longer yell, that involves motions, pompons, stunts, jumps, or tumbling.
6. Flier/Flyer/Floater- the person that is elevated into the air by the bases or the person on top of the pyramid or
stunt.
7. Freeze- to stop suddenly from a movement.
8. Pyramids- multiple mounts or a group of stunts next to one another.
9. Roll- is a rotation over an axis of the body over a surface.
10. Routine- a continuous show of talent in the squad by use of cheers, chants and dance steps.
11. Spotter- a person that stays in contact with the performing surface and watches for any hazards in the stunt or
mount. The spotter is responsible for watching the flyer and be prepared to catch her if she falls.

PLANNING FOR A HEALTH CAREER

Career- is an occupation or profession that requires special training.


Health careers- are designed to familiarize students with the various careers in the medical profession and allied
health service.

Career planning process:


1. Self-assessment
2. Career Exploration
3. Decision making
4. Plan of Action

Career pathways- are clusters of occupations that are grouped because of shared skills. All pathways include a
variety of occupations that require different levels of education, skills, and training. Selecting a career pathway
provides you with an area of focus, along with flexibility and a variety of ideas to pursue personal development.

Examples of health career pathways:


1. Disease prevention and Control
-Their work includes immunization, screening of newborns, promotion of breastfeeding, infant diseases
prevention, adolescent health care and life skills.
2. Personal Healthcare
-monitoring patients, administering, and assisting in personal care and hygiene; performing housekeeping duties;
and advising clients on related healthcare issues.
3. Maternal and Childcare
-health workers that deal with complex public issues that affect women, children and their families
4. Mental Health Care
-these medical professionals specialize in dealing with interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships life skills.
5. Community Healthcare
-specialists in this area focus on the maintenance, protection, and improvement of the health of all community
members.
6. Environmental Healthcare Management
-these health workers try to establish the correlation between and among the physical, chemical, biological,
social, and psychosocial factors in the surrounding environment.
7. Drug Prevention and Control
-People whose careers around this area seek to reduce community and individual problems related to alcohol and
drug abuse.
8. Nutrition
-specialists in this area find ways to balance individual’s food and nutrition and their impact on patients’ health.
9. Health Education
-those who work in this field are tasked with promotion of healthcare and training of health workers on managing
change in healthcare.
10. Dental Health
-deals with various oral conditions which include chronic mouth and facial pain, oral sores, periodontal (gum)
disease and other disorders that affect the oral cavity.
11. Occupational Safety
-careers in this path are related to the safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work employment.
12. Emergency Medical Services
-people assigned in this work specialize in out-of-hospital medical care. Their skills include first aid procedures,
emergency medical response and immediate medical attention.

QUARTER 4: ARTS 10
ORIGINAL PERFORMANCE WITH THE USE OF MEDIA
Theatre- is a collaborative form of performing art that uses live performers, usually actors or actresses, to present the experience of
a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place, often a stage.
Theatrical production is any work of theatre, such as a staged play, musical, comedy or drama produced from a written book or
script.
Actors and actresses- are the most visible on stage in a theater production. They express ideas and portray characters in theater,
film, television, and other performing arts media. They interpret a writer's script to entertain or inform an audience.
PHILIPPINE THEATER AND PERFORMING GROUPS:
1. PETA and Tanghalang Pilipino
the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), founded in 1967 by Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, and Tanghalang Pilipino, the
resident theater company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, founded in 1987. The productions of these groups span the
range from daring new presentations of classical works, to the spectacle of Philippine myths and legends, to commentaries on
current social and political issues.
2. Repertory Philippines
A company that not only staged English-language plays and musicals year-round but trained actors and actresses as well. The
company continues with this vision to this day. Multi-awarded theater actress and singer, Lea Salonga, in fact, began her career as
a child lead in productions of Repertory Philippines.
3. Trumpets
In the 1990s, the Philippine theater group Trumpets also began mounting grand productions of originally written musicals with a
slant towards good values for children and the whole family.
4. New Voice Company
established in 1994 by Monique Wilson—also a Repertory Philippines’ protégée who went on to star on the international stage.
New Voice has earned a reputation for staging thought-provoking productions on daring and deep topics.
5. Philippine Opera Company
Was founded in 1999 by a group of dedicated classically trained singers, led by soprano Karla Gutierrez as artistic directress. The
POC seeks to develop performers as well as audiences for classical music performances, both foreign and Filipino.
6. Theater Down South
In 2007, Theater Down South was founded, with Philippine theater mainstay Michael Williams as artistic director. The vision of the
company is to widen the reach of stage productions beyond the traditional centers within Metro Manila, and therefore develop a
broader audience base.

Roles of the production staff or behind the scenes:


1. Producer – takes the play from a mere concept to an actual finished presentation; and chooses the members and decides when
or where the play will be staged.
2. Director – the overall artistic coordinator of the entire production; and direct the show, instruct and guides the actors as to the
delivery of their lines and dialogues.
3. Playwright – the writer of the script
4. Set designer – the concept and creation of the physical stage setup
5. Lighting designer – coordinating closely with the set designer; critical in creating the mood of each scene in the play, highlighting
a dramatic moment; signaling the entrance of a character; and focusing attention on a specific spot-on stage, or even providing the
blanket of darkness for set and prop changes.
6. Costume designer – decides what attire will not only give the audience a clear sense of the
setting, but will also express each character’s personality and distinct qualities.
7. Sound designer – serves a vital role in creating and enhancing the atmosphere of the performance; and adds detailed notes to
the script to serve as a guide for the sound crew during rehearsals and the actual performance.
8. Production manager – coordinating all the complex behind-the-scenes details of staging a play; and tasked with overseeing the
crews for the sets and props, the sound and music, the lighting, and the costumes.
9. Technical director - shadows the play’s director throughout the entire production process; and carefully notes how each actor and
every member of the stage, sound, lighting, and costume crews need to be coordinated to bring the director’s vision to life—
ensuring that every instruction is properly executed.
10. Choreographer - plans out all the dance steps to suit the music, also rehearses the actors until they are able to perform the
dance skillfully—while remaining “in character” on stage.
11. Makeup designer - brought in to plan the hairstyles and makeup to complement the costumes; and making the actors look
natural for their respective roles—based on their characters’ age and personality, and the time and place of the story.

20 & 21ST MULTIMEDIA FORMS

Opera- is an art and music form in which singers and musicians perform a dramatic work combining text called
libretto and a musical score, usually in an elaborate theatrical setting. It incorporates many of the elements of
spoken theater, such as acting scenery, costumes and sometimes includes dance.
Filipino opera- started to take shape during the middle part of the 19th century. Foreign performers, including
instrumental virtuosi, as well as opera singers and Spanish zarzuela performers came to the country to perform
for enthusiastic audiences.
Sandugong Panaginip - first Filipino opera by Pedro Pattern, a poet novelist musician and government official.
This was first presented at the Zorilla Theater on August 2. 1902.
Bonifacio Abdon- the first Filipino opera conductor.
Dr. Ramon Javier- the first Filipino opera impresario who promoted local talents to participate in foreign
productions. The Orchestra Molina was known for their interpretation of op works as well as other classical
compositions.
Musical play- is a popular and generally lighter form of musical drama than the opera. The themes are usually
more contemporary, and the musical melodies more manageable by the average singer.
Broadway Musicals - are family entertainment with themes and texts which are generally light and easy to
understand. These may include the problems of everyday life, such as love and romance, social acceptance,
jealousy and intrigue, and adventure.
Showboat – the first Broadway musical which featured the popular mode of transport in the American frontier.
Lea Salonga - Filipino artist who attained international status on both London’s West End and Broadway. She is
best known for her portrayal of Kim in the musical Miss Saigon.
The Phantom of the Opera - is a Broadway musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Richard Stilgoe. The story
focuses on a beautiful singer Christine Daaé as she is seduced by a mysterious disfigured musical genius.
Les Misérables – a novel of Victor Hugo which became the most famous of all French musicals and one of the
most famous musicals performed worldwide.

MUSICAL PLAYS IN THE PHILIPPINES


1. Ang Dakilang Anak-Pawis – it is the musical play of a five-act work commissioned by Alfonso Puyat in
1979, depicting the life of revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio.
2. Andres Bonifacio – the founder of KKK (Kataastaasang Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng Mga Anak ng
Bayan)
3. Atang - Dulang May Musika - it is a musical based on the life of the first superstar of the Philippines,
Atang de la Rama.
4. Katy - it is about the life of bodabil (vaudeville) star Katy de la Cruz. It was initially presented by Actors
Studio East Production in 1988.
5. Florante at Laura – a musical play that was presented by Tanghalang Pilipino at the CCP Little Theater
from July 7 to 24, 1988. This was in celebration of the 200th birth anniversary of the author Francisco
Balagtas-Baltazar.
6. Daragang Magayon - is a production for poetry and mixed media for male and female narrators, female
voice, two percussionists, two pianists, and two dancers. It was first presented at the Cultural Center of
the Philippines Loading Dock in March 1991.
7. Noli Me Tangere - It is a novel by José Rizal which describes perceived inequities of the Spanish
Catholic friars and the ruling government. It was staged at the CCP Little Theater from February 1 to 4,
1996 as a production of Tanghalang Pilipino.
8. El Filibusterismo - It is a musical play closely follows the Rizal novel Noli Me tangere, whose major
character Crisostomo Ibarra disguised as Simoun. which tells of the continuing struggle of the Filipinos
to achieve freedom and emancipation from Spanish colonial rule.
9. Noli Me Tangere & El Filibusterismo – two great novels of Jose P. Rizal.
10. Magsimula Ka - is the story of young dreamers whose ambitions begin to fade in life’s realities. They
are part of the graduating class filled with hope but end up compromising their idealism for their own
survival.
