A. How do Filipino Bayanihan (a summary of other Filipino social and moral virtues) is being
affected because of:
• Pakikisama – to be concerned, to be supportive
• Pakikipagkapwa – harmony with others
• Pakikiramay – sympathize, condole, share the suffering
• Pakikitungo – act humbly, concede, deal with someone properly
• Hiya- painful feeling of having done something wrong; embarrassment; shame’
humiliation
• Dangal - social honor
• Utang na loob – the debt of gratitude
• Paggalang – respect
(The Volunteer: Centennial Edition. Quezon City:PNVSCA, 1998)

1. Pakikisama greatly affects how Filipinos interact with each other, highlighting the value of
working together, staying united, and keeping good relationships in different parts of life.
2. Pakikipagkapwa strongly influences how Filipinos act and relate to each other, shaping their
behaviors and attitudes. It builds a culture where people care about others, connect with each
other, and work together to help everyone.
3. Pakikiramay is really important in Filipino culture. It affects how people relate to each other,
how communities work, and how Filipinos help each other in good and bad times.
4. Pakikitungo affects how people in Filipino culture interact with each other. It changes how they
behave, talk, and connect with others in their community.
5. Hiya teaches Filipinos to be respectful, humble, and keep peace in their relationships. But
sometimes, it stops them from expressing themselves freely, growing personally, and facing
tough situations openly. Remember, hiya affects Filipinos differently and might change as time
goes on in the Philippines.
6. Dangal or honor influences how Filipinos’ act, choose things, and deal with others. It's really
important to their culture and affects lots of parts of life, like how they relate to people and
their roles in society.
7. Although utang na loob helps make strong connections and a feeling of togetherness, it can also
make things tricky in friendships and choices. Finding the right balance between returning
kindness and respecting personal limits is a tough task for many Filipinos because of this cultural
belief.
