MOTIVE QUESTION
(Answers may vary)
Class, Do you think it is possible for a single
action to become identify as a Noun?
PRESENTATION
Since you were already familiar with an
action word or Verbs. Let's now move to an
additional topic with regards to Verb.

GENERAL IDEAS What is a gerund and what is its function?

A gerund (pronounced JER-und) is a verb

that’s acting as a noun. By that, we mean
that the verb—the word that describes the
action that’s happening, like “biking,”
“thinking,” “running,” or “speaking”—
becomes a thing, a concept that can now
be the sentence’s subject, direct object,
indirect object, or the object of a
preposition.

(A teacher will call a student to read the

text.)
(A Student will read the texts.)

To be a gerund, a verb has to act as a noun

in its sentence. Present participle verbs are
not gerunds when they describe the action
in a sentence.

(A Teacher will look for an example given

on the previous activity)

(The teacher will explain the examples)

Class, do you have any questions or

clarification?
(Answers may vary)
Let us move to the 6 types of Gerund these
are:

There are six types of gerunds:

1. Subject: Biking is my newest hobby.

2. Subject complement: My preferred

commuting method is biking.

3. Direct object: I love biking.

4. Indirect object: My sister gave biking a

try.

5. Object complement: I see myself

biking every day.

6. Object of a preposition: I blocked out

a few hours this Sunday for biking

(Teacher will call a student to read the

definition)

Lately, I asked you if is it possible for an (A Student will read each type and its
action to become identified as a noun, examples)
right?

So what do you think now is the answer?

Right! Because a Verb can identify itself as

a noun. And a verb that identified as noun
is what we called... (Yes It is possible, Ma'am)

Very Good, class!

Class, always keep in mind that Gerunds (Gerund!)

and verbs are different when it is being use
in a sentence. Gerunds function as a noun
in a sentence while, verb describe the
action in a sentence.

On the examples given by the students

who shared their insights on the game
activity "Pass the Ball" we can assume that
there's a word that identifies the verb in
DISCUSSION OF EXAMPLES their statement.
(A Student will listen and comprehend the
(Teacher will ask the students what are the topic)
verbs that stated by their classmates)

Now, take a look at this examples.

(Examples are based on the shared insight

of students) (Answers may vary)

(Teacher will explain the examples and

how it function as Gerund)

Class, What did i previously said about the

function of Gerund?

Now, from these examples when a verb

adds an -ing to its root word we cannot
simply identifies it as a Gerund. Why?
Because A verb with an -ing will depend (Gerunds can be identify as a noun)
upon the sentence that distinguish itself as
a noun in a sentence.

(Did i make myself clear, class?)

Let's now move to the 6 types of Gerunds

Class, what are the 6 types of Gerunds?

(Answers may vary)

differences in its uses? * Object complement

(A teacher will discuss the differences of

each type and will provide an examples)
(Answers may vary)
Alright, given the definition and examples
on the board we can easily locate each
type of gerunds in its uses. Each types has
its own standard that present differences
on how do they use the verb in a sentence
to identify the Gerund.
