LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE IV

DEDUCTIVE METHOD

I. Objectives
Given an activity, the Grade IV Samosa students are expected to do the
following with at least 85% level accuracy:
a. recall how sound is produced;
b. determine the properties and characteristics of sound; and
c. follow the rules of the activity.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Sound Energy
Reference: Science for Active Learning 4, pp.309-312.

III. Materials

IV. Procedure
A. Preparation
Good morning class! (Good afternoon, ma’am) How are you today? (We are
good) Very well, you may now take your seat. Are you ready for today’s lesson?
(Yes) Today, we are going to have a group activity. This table will be group 1,
group 2, and group 3.

1. Recall of the Rule

Last time, we have learned about sound energy, right? (Yes) Who can
tell again to the class, how is sound produced? (It is produced by the
vibration of objects) That’s right! Sound is produced by the vibration of
objects. What are the three properties of sounds? (Pitch, Loudness, and Tone)
How do we know if the sound waves of the sound are in high and low pitch?
(If the sound waves are big, it means that the sound is in low pitch and small
waves if the sound is high pitch) Very good! How about the loudness? (The
waves are big if the sound is soft, and the waves are small if the sound is
loud.) Very good again! How about the tone? (The bigger the waves the
pleasant the sound is and the smaller the waves the unpleasant or noise the
sound is) Excellent! What are the characteristics of sound? (Sound can be
reflected, sound can be refracted, sound can be absorbed) Very good class.
B. Inference
This time class, we will be going to have a Quiz Bee.

Mechanics: Each group will be given an illustration board and a chalk. In

your group, assign a number in each member. The Quiz Bee is divided into 3
rounds: easy, moderate, and difficult. For each item, you will be given 30 seconds
to answer.

Easy round

1. Which of the following is produced by the vibration of objects?

a. Energy
b. Light
c. Sound
2. What properties of sound identifies if the sound is pleasant and unpleasant or
noise?
a. Tone
b. Loudness
c. Pitch
3. What properties of sound determines the loudness and softness of sound?
a. Tone
b. Loudness
c. Pitch
4. Which of the following is NOT a Characteristic of Sound?
a. Sound can be reflected
b. Sound can be sang
c. Sound can be absorbed
5. What characteristic of sound is being described if there is an echo?
a. Sound can be reflected
b. Sound can be refracted
c. Sound can be absorbed

Moderate: TRUE OR FALSE

1. Light energy is produced by the vibrations of objects.

2. Sound travels fastest n solids than in Liquids and Gasses
3. Sound is a form of Energy
4. Wave is one of the Properties of Sound.
5. Sound waves reflected back towards the source.

Difficult: Enumeration

1. Give the three(3) Characteristics of sound.

2. Give the three(3) properties of sound.
3. Give at least five(5) objects that produces sound.

C. Verification
Now, let’s check your answers.
Easy test

1. Which of the following is produced by the vibration of objects?

a. Energy
b. Light
c. Sound

2. What properties of sound identifies if the sound is pleasant and unpleasant or

noise?
a. Tone
b. Loudness
c. Pitch

3. What properties of sound determines the loudness and softness of sound?

a. Tone
b. Loudness
c. Pitch

4. Which of the following is NOT a Characteristic of Sound?

a. Sound can be reflected
b. Sound can be singing
c. Sound can be absorbed

5. What characteristic of sound is being described if there is an echo?

a. Sound can be reflected
b. Sound can be refracted
c. Sound can be absorbed

Moderate: TRUE OR FALSE

1. Light energy is produced by the vibrations of objects. (FALSE)

2. Sound travels fastest in solids than in Liquids and Gasses. (TRUE)
3. Sound is a form of Energy. (TRUE)
4. Wave is one of the Properties of Sound. (TRUE)
5. Sound waves reflected back towards the source. (TRUE)

Difficult: Enumeration

1. Give the three (3) Characteristics of sound. (Sound can be reflected, sound can be
refracted, sound can be absorbed)
2. Give the three (3) properties of sound. (Pitch, Loudness, and Tone)
3. Give at least five (5) objects that produces sound. (DRUM, XYLOPHONE,
FRENCH HORN, PIANO, HAIRDRYER ETC.)

V. Evaluation
This time, to check if you really have learned something. I want you to answer
the short quiz.

Directions: Complete the statements below.

1. Sound is produce by the vibration of objects.

2. An echo is a reflection of sound.
3. Sound travels fastest in solids that in liquids and gases.
4. Pitch identify if the sound is high and low.
5. Sound is a form of energy.
