Dear Aida Ajanovic,

I take this opportunity to write to you and apply for an internship competition organized by
BIRN. I am Jovana Radivojevic, a recently graduated journalist at the Faculty of Political
Sciences in Belgrade. These days, I am preparing for the Master of Communication Studies
entrance exam, also at the Faculty of Political Sciences.

Entering my journalistic career, I believe that it is essential to have a quality opportunity to

utilize my theoretical knowledge in journalism and increase my practical work capacities.
Therefore, I want to be part of a project organized by BIRN because your organization is
dedicated to truth and objectiveness, recognizes the importance of freedom of speech, promotes
democratic values and human rights, and raises awareness of civil society’s importance. I believe
that journalists have a significant role in this process, too, as they are the ones who need to
advocate and promote the same values through their work. By doing so, we pave the path to a
brighter future and prove that it is the only way to progress and overcome the past full of conflict
situations in the Balkans.

I am highly motivated to increase my knowledge and skills. I believe it is an excellent

opportunity to attend lecturers about investigative journalism in a foreign language and
demonstrate my practical capacities in one of the offered newsrooms working with great eminent
professionals. I expect the training to be dynamic, creative, and full of challenges for its
participants. An internship in one of the newsrooms would be an excellent experience and further
motivation for achieving a prosperous career.

During the four months of internship and training, I will fully commit to my work’s
objectiveness and contribute to finding the right information. My communication, organizational
and other skills will be a great asset to your organization. My primary motive is to be an
impartial and objective journalist who works for the public interest, respecting the professional
norms. I choose to continue my formal education at the Faculty of Political Sciences in order to
study communication techniques more in detail since my immediate interest is political
communication.

I am looking forward to being a part of the project because I will also have a chance to meet my
colleagues from the region and exchange experience and knowledge in addition to lectures and
internship opportunities.

Thank you in advance for taking my application into consideration.

Kind regards,

Jovana Radivojevic
