MOTIVATION
Before we proceed with our topic, we will
first have a game.

Do you want to play a game?

Yes, ma’am.

Okay! I will group you into four. (The

teacher divides the class into four groups)

Listen carefully to my instructions. First,

each group will be given an envelope.
Inside it are strips of paper, which are a set
of words that form a sentence.

With the help of your group mates,

arrange the given set of words and paste it
on the blackboard.

Yes, ma’am!
The group who finishes first with the
correct arrangement of words shall be
awarded points.

And I will only give you 5 minutes to

arrange the given set of words.

Did you understand?

Yes, ma’am.
Are you ready?

Yes, ma’am.
Your time starts now.

(The students work together to form their given set of

words, then signal the teacher that they are finished.
After which, they present their answers.)

1. Ana is an amazing woman.

2. Don’t ever hurt my sister.
3. Why are you not interested?
4. That is a great idea!
Very Good! You were able to finish the
task given to you. Good job Group 3 you
were the first to finish the game.
Now, let us look into the sentences that
you have arranged.
What have you noticed class? (Students share their ideas)
Ma’am we used period, exclamation point and
question mark at the end of the sentences.
Very good Annie! So, those are
examples of different types of sentences
according to their functions which is our
topic today.
C. Presenting examples/ instances
of the new lesson
So, our main topic for today is about the
different types of sentences according to
function. These are the Declarative,
Imperative, Interrogative and Exclamatory
sentences.
But, before we proceed with each
definition and use, let us first define what a
sentence is.

Who among you can define what a

Sentence is?
Ma’am.
Yes, Faith.

It is a set of words that contain a subject and

predicate.
Yes, you are right.

Can anybody read the given definition for

you to understand it more?

A sentence is a set of words that is complete in itself.

It contains a subject and a predicate. It conveys a
statement, question, exclamation or command.
Thank you. Sentences are entire groups
of words that include a subject and a
predicate and communicate a statement,
inquiry, exclamation, or command.

Is that clear?
Yes, ma’am!

Do you have questions before we

proceed with the uses?

None ma’am.

D. Discussing new concepts and

practicing new skills
Now, let me introduce you the four types
of sentences according to structure. Would
someone read this sentence for me?
Yes, CJ.
Ma’am.

A declarative sentence states a fact or opinion and

Ends with a period. It is also the most common of all
sentence functions. We use declarative sentences
to:
 Make a statement
 Give an opinion
 Provide an explanation
 Give facts

Thank you. Now, let’s take a look at the

sentence that Group 1 came up with. This
one is a declarative sentence. Could you tell
me the reason why it’s classified as
declarative?

Ma’am.

Yes, Angelica.
Ma’am the sentence is classified as declarative
because it states a fact or opinion and it also ends
with a period.

Very good, Angelica.

So, Kindly give me a Declarative

sentence. Ma’am.

Yes, An-An.
Ana and Lino went to the mall yesterday to buy
some snacks.

A well construct sentence Ms. An-An,

Thank you.

Now let’s talk about the second type of

sentence. Would someone read the
definition?
Ma’am.

Yes, Zaira.
An imperative sentence expresses a request or
gives a command or direction. It also ends with a
period or an exclamation mark depending on the
urgency of the command and can be presented in
several ways.
 Giving instructions.
 Offering advice.
 Making a wish on behalf of someone else.
 Extending an invitation.
 Giving a command.

Now, let’s check the sentence that group 2

came up with. It ends with a period but that
doesn’t mean it’s a declarative sentence
because it expresses a command.

Kindly give me an example of imperative

sentence.
Ma’am.
Yes, Clarisse.
Kindly bring my tumbler here.
Thank you Clarisse. Any other
sentence?
Ma’am.
Yes, Annie.
Make sure to pass all your projects tomorrow.
Thank you Annie.

Let’s talk about the third type of sentence.

An interrogative sentence asks a
question and typically require an answer. It
also ends with a question mark. Remember
that an interrogative sentence ends with a
question mark and we have the different
types of a question.

1. Yes-No Questions – It takes a yes or

no as an answer.
2. Alternatives Questions- Two
answers are provided for a choice
through the use of conjunction “or”
Example: Does she work in the
morning or at night?
3. Informative questions- It is formed
with a question word, such as
where, when, who, what, why and
how.
4. Tag Questions- It is formed by a
statement + a question tag with a
comma in between.
Example: She’s a surgeon, isn’t
she?

Who can give me an example of an

interrogative sentence?
Ma’am.

Yes, Carlotta.
Baguio is a cool place because the weather is good,
isn’t it?

Thank you. Let’s discuss the last type of

sentences. Exclamatory sentence. Please
everybody read the definition.
An exclamatory sentence are used to express strong
feelings and opinions, such as surprise, excitement,
and anger and it usually end with exclamation point.
