Lesson for today?

B. LESSON PROPER
1. Discussion of the After discussing the different kinds of Adjectives let’s
Lesson move on discussing the Degrees of Comparison in
Adjectives.
There are three (3) Degrees of Comparison we
have…

1. Positive Adjectives
2. Comparative Adjectives and;
3. Superlative Adjectives

And there are eight (8) rules under those Degrees of

Comparison, but first, let’s discuss what are the
three main degrees of comparison.

Okay class?

We have the Positive Adjectives

1. Positive Adjectives
Is used when no comparison is made at all.

For example.
Liam runs fast.

In our example, Liam is the subject, the one we talk

about, and he does not compare to anyone or
anything.

Did you understand? Yes Ma’am

Now let’s move on to Comparative Adjectives

2. Comparative Adjectives
Is used when two persons or things are compared
(not more than two)

For example.
Liam runs faster than Michael

We compare how fast Liam runs compared to

Michael.

3. Superlative Adjectives
Is used when more than two persons or things are
compared.

For example.
Of the three of them, Nick is the fastest.

Understood? Yes Ma’am

Now, there are cases or adjectives that we do not

always add “er” and “est” that’s why we have some
rules in forming comparative and superlative
adjectives.

Rule 1.
Adjectives of three or more syllables use more and
most instead of -er and -est—e.g., familiar,
more familiar, most familiar.

For example.
- Kenneth is more cautious than Rolly

You cannot say cautiouser or cautiousest but Yes Ma’am

instead we add “more” to emphasize comparison
between Kenneth and Rolly.

Rule 2.
While changing the degree of comparison for the
irregular adjectives, the word completely changes
instead of adding ‘er’ or ‘est’ in changes in spelling
or word formation.

Good, better, best

Little, Less, Least
Old, Elder, Eldest
For example
Mianne is a good athlete
You cannot say…
Mianne is gooder/more good athlete

That’s why we use better/best

- Mianne is a better athlete than Ria
- Mianne is the best athlete in the school
Yes Ma’am
Did you understand our lesson class?

Okay, Very Good!
