THE EUPHORIA OF WELCOMING U-17 WORLD CUP IN SURABAYA, 31 TEAMS COMPETE IN

INTER-DISTRICT FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

A total of 31 teams started competing in the Inter-District Football Tournament on


Monday (23/10/2023). They were declared qualified after successfully passing the sub-
districts competition yesterday. This inter-district football tournament will start on 23 rd until
30th October 2023 at the Jambangan Football Field and Mulyorejo Football Field, Surabaya
City.

The tournament held by the Government of Surabaya City is one of the activities to
enliven the grand event of the U-17 World Cup in 2023. Therefore, the government city
wants to welcome the U-17 World Cup by involving students in the City of Heroes.

The Head of the City Culture, Youth and Sports and Tourism Service of Surabaya,
Wiwiek Widayati said that the participants who were declared to have passed the sub-
district or inter-village football tournament would be competed by representing each of
own districts.

“There is a hope that this friendly match can echo the spirit and inspire students
about Surabaya. The inter-village competition started at the sub-district level yesterday,
now it is at the district level. We hope it will be a place for the emergence of football players
from Surabaya,” said Wiwiek.

Meanwhile, regarding the conditions for players, Wiwiek admitted that it was not
much different from yesterday's inter-district football tournament. In the Inter-District
Football Tournament, the maximum number of players that must be prepared by each
districts are 22 people, with a minimum of 18 people, as well as 2 coaches with a match
duration of 25x2 minutes.

“Players have to get a letter of recommendation from the district based on their
family card and a photocopy of their diploma, and be brought by the district official at the
time of the match, and they are not permitted to use a domicile letter. Another rule is
players and officials are required to arrive 30 minutes before the match,” She explained.

She explained, through the Inter-District Football Tournament, the government city wants
to bring out new seeds in the field of football. Moreover, Surabaya was appointed as one of
the venues for the U-17 World Cup event in Indonesia.
“Through the activity, talent scouting is also carried out to see children's talentsso that they
can be developed. From these villages, we hope that new players will emerge in the field of
