ACTIVITY TITLE: Term-End Essay
CASE STORY TITLE: One’s Commitment (part-2)

PRE-NSTP (EXPECTATION, NOTION AND IDEA)

Give your thoughts on the 17 United Nation Sustainable Development Goals and cite a particular UNSDG
and community concern that it can address where you think Mapua-NSTP students, as a whole, can mainly
contribute in it.
Student’s Answer:

As the world progresses, problems and crises also rise. The severity of these problems will
continue to intensify unless global cooperation and collective action. The 17 UN Sustainable Development
Goals are significant as they serve as a blueprint for different countries to execute collective action.
Mapua University has consistently produced globally competent individuals. The university's pride
lies in producing students competent in engineering, maritime, and technology. This goes without saying
that Mapua-NSTP students are imbued with a sense of leadership, competence, and responsibility due to
Mapua's quality education.
For me, the educational crisis in the Philippines is a significant concern that needs a dire response
from both the government and the citizens. The problem in education is systemic, and holistic change is
necessary to improve the quality of education in the Philippines. From school infrastructures and colonial
type of curriculum to an environment unfavorable to learning for the students, a lot more has to be done
to achieve educational reform that could favor the needs of the students.
The community of Mapua-NSTP students could greatly help in different aspects concerning the
education crisis in the Philippines. There are various ways to approach the problem and initiate action to
start changes. Known for its competence in engineering, the knowledge the university teaches its students
could be of great substance in building infrastructures after graduation. In addition to this, Mapua
University is also known for producing students with critical thinking that is not delimited to the four
corners of the classroom. The university also produces students capable of expressing concerns as
functional citizens of the country.
Therefore, even as students, Mapua-NSTP students could still ignite changes by decrying the
country's educational gaps.

POST-NSTP (REALIZATION, INSIGHT AND LEARNINGS)

Give your thoughts on the learnings you gained through this course, its relation to your duties as a
citizen and your future actions in fulfilling your commitment to the community.
Student’s Answer:

As a student taking the NSTP-CWTS course, the learning I gained through this course has been
invaluable. CWTS aims to develop students into responsible and active citizens who are aware of societal
issues and committed to positively contributing to their communities.
The course helped me understand the importance of civic engagement and my role in addressing
social concerns. It allowed me to engage in various community service activities, such as outreach
programs, environmental projects, and disaster preparedness initiatives. These experiences taught me the
value of teamwork, empathy, and the ability to adapt to different situations.
In terms of its relation to my duties as a citizen, CWTS taught me that being a responsible citizen
goes beyond simply obeying laws and paying taxes. It is about actively participating in activities that
promote the common good, such as volunteering, advocating for social justice, and being environmentally
conscious. The course encouraged me to become more aware of the needs and issues faced by my
community and to take an active role in addressing them.
In fulfilling my commitment to the community, I plan to continue engaging in volunteer work and
community service even after completing the CWTS course. Positively impacting society is an ongoing
process that requires sustained effort and dedication. Whether participating in local clean-up drives,
supporting community-based organizations, or mentoring younger students, I want to contribute in any
way I can.
Additionally, during the CWTS course, we had a hands-on activity where we learned to make DIY
bags. These bags were meant for personal use and donation to the local community in Pandacan, Manila.
Making DIY bags taught me the value of resourcefulness, creativity, and sustainable practices. It made me
realize that even small actions like creating a bag can positively impact the community.
By donating these DIY bags to the local community in Pandacan, Manila, I hope to provide a
practical solution to a basic need while promoting environmental consciousness. Engaging in such
activities can inspire others to adopt sustainable practices and create a ripple effect of positive change
within the community. I intend to continue engaging in similar projects that address immediate needs and
long-term sustainability in my communities.
Overall, the NSTP-CWTS course has shaped my perspective as a responsible citizen and motivated
me to actively contribute to improving my community. It has given me the necessary tools, knowledge,
and passion to continue making a positive difference in the lives of others. I am committed to fulfilling my
duty as a citizen by engaging in meaningful community service, advocating for social justice, and
promoting sustainable practices for a better future.
