PRESS RELEASE

Briones to employee associations: We belong to one

organization
CLARK, PAMPANGA May 1, 2018 – Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary
Leonor Magtolis Briones called on some 450 members and representatives of its
27 employee groups and associations from all over the country to continuously
pursue the Department’s mandates, uphold its core values of “Maka-Diyos, Maka-
Tao, Makakalikasan, at Makabansa,” and be the embodiment of “One DepEd.”

The Education Chief reiterated this during the 1st DepEd Employee Associations
(DEA) Congress held at the Fontana Leisure Park in Clark, Pampanga.

“We believe that the time has come for us all to get together. After all, we belong to
one organization, and this is the Department of Education,” Briones emphasized.

Pioneer gathering
The Secretary took pride in the first ever gathering of DepEd employees including
“teachers, dentists, doctors, engineers, superintendents, supervisors, principals…
ang kulang na lang dito ay pupils and learners natin...to exchange views, make
recommendations, and respond to each other on how to further improve employee
welfare.”

Undersecretary for Administration Alain Del Pascua dubbed the event as a

success, “Ito ay isang pambihirang tagumpay na maituturing kung saan ang
pangunahing kinatawan ng manggagawa at namamahala ay nagkaisa sa diwa ng
konsultasyon bilang magkakaibigan, magkakasama, iisang pamilya.”

In addition to the Secretary’s keynote address, the other highlight of the two-day
congress was the ceremonial signing of the Collective Negotiation Agreement
(CNA) between the DepEd management and the DepEd National Employees’
Union (DepEd-NEU).

Public sector unionism

Earlier in the week, the Office of Undersecretary Pascua spearheaded the DepEd
National Conference on Public Sector Unionism and Workshop on Collective
Negotiation Agreements at Lohas Hotel in Clark, Pampanga from April 27 to May
1.

The conference and workshop provided DepEd Regional Managers with a

comprehensive course on CNA analysis, negotiation strategies and tactics,
contract preparation, sharing of experiences, and post-negotiation reportorial
requirements, among others.

The participants also joined the employee associations in the nearby DEA
Congress for the joint session in celebration of Labor Day.

“What you are doing – sacrificing your May 1 holiday to sit here and to discuss, to
argue, and to debate on what is best for the DepEd employees – will not be put to
