10:20 – 11:20 am Sakay
11:20 – 12:20 am Ricarte

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of volcanoes found in the Philippines
B. Performance Standards
C. Learning Competencies/ A. Differentiate speed and velocity;
Specific Objectives B. Solve for speed and velocity; and
C. Cite some examples of everyday activities where motion can be observed.

II. CONTENT
A. Subtopic Motion
B. Concepts  Speed and Velocity are two quantities in Physics that seem at first
glance to have the same meaning. While related, they have distinctly
different definitions. Knowing their definitions is critical to
understanding the difference between them.
 SPEED is a quantity that describes “how fast or slow” an object is
moving.
 VELOCITY is a quantity that is defined as the rate at which an
object’s position changes.
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
Teacher’s Guide pages Science books and k-12 modules
Learner’s Material pages
B. Other Learning Resources K-12 Teacher’s guide pages 216-217, synopses from the internet
IV. PROCEDURES /LEARNING TASKS

A. Reviewing previous lesson (Engage) A _________quantity is completely described by magnitude alone. A

_______quantity is completely described by a magnitude with a direction.
Speed is a ________quantity and velocity is a _________ quantity.

B. Establishing/Presenting a purpose for While traveling from Miami to Orlando on a vacation trip, you recorded the following
the new lesson. (Elicit) data for distances and time to cover them.
You travel the first 150 Kilometers in 2.5 hours, and the second part of the trip, 100
kilometers in 1.4 hours. What was your average speed for this trip?

C. Discussing new concepts and Let the students perform “Describing Motion Verbally with Speed and Velocity”
practicing new skill ( Explore) (See attached activity sheet)

D. Developing mastery. (Explain)  Show how the sample problems below arrived with the
correct answer.

What is the speed of a runner if he covers a

distance of 100 m in 8.5 seconds?

d = 100 m t = 8.5 s v = 11.76 m/s

Daily Lesson Plan - Fourth Quarter

A truck travels 30 m east upon delivery of bottled drinks with
time interval of 10 minutes. What is its velocity?

Displacement = 30 m east t = 10 min. (600 s)

velocity = 0.05 m/s
Guide Questions:
1. How are you going to solve for speed?
2. How about velocity?

E. Finding practical applications of Let the students answer “Calculating Average Speed and Average
concepts and skills in daily living. Velocity”
(Elaborate)
(See attached activity sheet)

F. Making generalizations and

abstractions about the lesson.
(Elaborate)
G. Evaluating learning. (Evaluate)
Compute for the following:
1. Lydia de Vega is a world known Filipino Track and field athlete. She can run the
100.0 m dash in about 11.0 seconds. What is her average speed?
2. The car is heading north covering a distance of 500 meters in 20.0 seconds.
What is the car’s velocity?

H. Additional activities for application Search for the following:

and remediation. (Extend) a. Acceleration
b. UAM
c. How to solve it.
