Time: 9:20 – 10:20 am / 10:20 - 11:20 am
Learning Area: Science 7
2:00 – 3:00 pm / 3:00-4:00 pm

I. OBJECTIVES
The learners demonstrate an understanding of motion in one
A. Content Standard
dimension.
The learners shall be able to conduct a forum on mitigation and disaster
B. Performance Standard
risk reduction.
The learners should be able to:
 describe and identify acceleration in terms of words;
C. Learning Competencies  apply the concept of acceleration through an activity; and
 calculate acceleration of moving objects using appropriate units.
(S7FE - IIIa – 1)

II. CONTENT DESCRIBING MOTION (Acceleration)

III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages
2. Learner’s Manual pages pp. 178-179
3. Textbook pages
B. Other Learning Resources Power point presentation
Science text book
Video presentation
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson
or presenting new lesson  Greetings
(ELICIT)  Checking of attendance
 Recall past lesson regarding speed and velocity

B. Establishing a purpose of
the lesson (ENGAGE)  CHINESE WHISPER GAME
Direction:
Students will be divided into two groups. Each group will choose
two representatives. The representatives will go in front and
read the secret message. Once the teacher says go it is the time
for the representatives to go to the first student and whisper the
secret message, he/she read. The first student will whisper the
secret message to the second students ear. The second student
will turn to the person next to him/her and whisper the message
to them. Continues whispering the message until it reaches the
last student. The last student will say the message they heard
aloud to the whole class. The first group to say the correct
message will be the winner.
C. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills  Perform Activity
#1(EXPLORE)
Direction: Draw a star (*) if the statement is correct and circle (O)
if not.

__________1. Acceleration is defined as the rate of change in

velocity of a moving object per unit of time.
__________2. The faster the change in velocity, the grater is the
acceleration.
__________3. Deceleration is defined as the “change in velocity”.
__________4. Acceleration is defined as the reduction in speed.
__________5. The S.I unit for acceleration is meter per second
square or m/s2.

Answer Key:
1. star
2. star
3. circle
4. circle
5. star

D. Developing Mastery  Answer guide question.

(EXPLAIN) 1. How can we define Acceleration?
2. How can we define Deceleration?

 Discuss
Acceleration is defined as the rate of change in velocity of a
moving object per unit of time.
The change in velocity can be achieved in three ways:
 by increasing its speed while traveling in a straight line;
 by decreasing its speed while traveling in a straight line;
and
 by changing its direction while traveling at a constant
speed
Whereas, the decrease in velocity is called deceleration. The
object is said to be decelerating if the speed of velocity started to
decrease or slows down.

Formula in getting the acceleration;

Where;
a – acceleration
vf – final velocity
vi – initial velocity
t – time

The S.I unit for acceleration is meter per second square or m/s2.
F. Finding practical applications
of concepts and skills in daily  Motivation Activity revisited.
living (ELABORATE)  Ask the students how the activity (motivation) shows/related to
the lesson for today.
H. EVALUATE
 Individual Activity: Problem Solving
Direction:
Answer the following problems.

1. A toy car accelerates from 3 m/s to 5 m/s in 5 s. What is its

acceleration?
Answer: 0.4m/s2

2. A roller coaster car rapidly picks up speed as it rolls down a

slope. As it starts down the slope, its speed is 4 m/s. But 3
seconds later, at the bottom of the slope, its speed is 22 m/s.
What is its average acceleration?
Answer: 6 m/s2

3. A cyclist accelerates from 0 m/s to 8 m/s in 3 seconds. What is

his acceleration?
Answer: 2. 66m/s2

4. A lizard accelerates from 2 m/s to 10 m/s in 4 seconds. What

is the lizard’s average acceleration?
Answer: 2m/s2

5. A runner covers the last straight stretch of a race in 4 s. During

that time, he speeds up from 5 m/s to 9 m/s. What is the
runner’s acceleration in this part of the race?
Answer: 1m/s2

I. Additional activities for application

or remediation (EXTEND)

in the evaluation
B. No. of learners who require
additional activities for remediation
who scored below 80%
C. Did the remedial lessons work?
No. of learners who have caught up
with the lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to
require remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies
worked well? Why did this work?
