CHEESE-ROLLING FESTIVAL

From: greenroses@gmail.com

To: whiteroses@gmail.com

Subject: Before the festival

Hi Mom,
Bob and I arrived at Cooper's Hill, Gloucester, England yesterday. It's the hill
where the Cheese-Rolling festival is held annually on the last Monday of
May. Fences have been carefully removed and set aside. Undergrowth on the hill
has been cut and flattened. The hill has been scanned for stones and other
dangerous objects which have been removed. Luckily, the weather has been ideal,
it's not too hot nor too cold, and there is no rain.
The festival starts at 12 so we didn't need to get up early this morning.
I have to go now.
Bye Mom.
Thu

Subject: It’s amazing!

Mom,
Yesterday was the most exciting and memorable day of my life!
Just after 10:00, thousands of spectators arrived and filled the hill. The
competitors, including Bob, gathered at the top of the hill. The race started at
12:00. The MC held the cheese and counted down to the start of the race “One to
be ready, two to be steady, three to prepare and four to be off.” He rolled the
cheese and all competitors ran very fast to catch the cheese. Some tumbled more
than ran. You know? I shouted for joy the whole time saying “Come on. Catch that
cheese!” and so did other spectators. It’s really exciting and noisy. And I couldn’t
believe in my eyes when I saw Bob arrived at the foot of the hill first after catching
the cheese. He won. I screamed and jumped for joy.
Wow, I am still very excited. We are going to have a party to celebrate his win, so
bye for now.
