NEW SKILLS
What is blending?
Blending refers to the process of joining a part of one word and a
part of another to form a new word with a new meaning.
Blended words are formed by blending.
Blended word is a new word created by combining parts of two
words to make a new word or a word plus a part of another word.
(M2L3-What Is It, p.5)

Let’s try to find the meaning of a blended word using a pair of

words that are similar or synonyms.
1. A common example to this is smassy.
Smassy is a blended word. It is the combination of two words
that mean the same. The words are smart and sassy which means
amusingly clever.

Example Sentence:
I really admired the smassy girl in class. She always gets a high
score in every exam.
2. Another example is “chillax”. It is a combination of chill and
relax. These words mean the same. You always say chillax to
someone when you want him/ her to calm down and rest.
Example Sentence:
Every time I feel stress because of many work load, I try to
chillax to calm myself.
(SDO SLM3, p.7)
