Pollution is Not a Small Crisis

Pollution is no stranger to Malaysians because it is often talked about and is also

the main issue on social media. Pollution is often associated with activities that pollute the
environment and destroy some places that are habitats for some animals that are part of one
ecosystem. It is common knowledge that there are several types of pollution, namely water,
air, soil, and noise pollution. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), "air
pollution has reached a dangerous level, at the same time as the world is becoming
increasingly crowded and hot while vehicle engines continue to emit poisonous gases" and
"the health effects of air pollution are serious. About 30% of deaths from stroke, lung cancer,
and heart disease are due to air pollution". In 2020, the Environment Department has
received many reports, but there is one report that has involved many individuals, especially
in Johor. The report refers to an incident in Pasir Gudang, Johor that has affected the health
and quality of the environment with illegal activities, namely the disposal of oil waste in the
wrong way. Not only that, the incident of water pollution in India has shaken the news in the
present day, which is more specific to the Sungai Gangga. The purpose of my writing this
essay is to give exposure to everyone especially Malaysians regarding pollution, namely the
causes, effects, and measures to deal with pollution.

Firstly, several causes cause water, air, and soil pollution. The cause of water
pollution is the irresponsible attitude of Malaysians. This causes widespread littering all over
the place, especially in areas that are tourist attractions. It is common knowledge that
improper or uncontrolled dumping of rubbish in water areas will contaminate clean water
sources. Furthermore, the water source will be filtered and used for daily use such as
washing clothes. In addition, air pollution often results from open burning. Not only that, but
volcanic eruptions in neighbouring countries are also one of the causes of air pollution in our
country. There is no doubt that our neighbouring country, which is Indonesia, has had a lot of
impact on the people of Southeast Asia caused by accidental open burning. Meanwhile, soil
pollution is caused by using fertilizers that are not environmentally friendly. This matter is
widespread because many shops or malls have sold a lot of this fertilizer that is not
environmentally friendly at a cheap price and is easy to find everywhere. Furthermore, the
attitude of Malaysians is more concerned with convenience than with the negative impact
that will come.
Secondly, I would like to give exposure related to the effects of pollution from
the point of view of the water, air, and soil pollution. First, I will provide some background
information on the impacts of water pollution, including the fact that a lot of aquatic life
vanishes when harmful chemicals and rubbish contaminate rivers and other bodies of water
that serve as habitat for it. According to the Daily News "The Oder River in Poland collapsed
by 90 percent as thousands of fish died on the banks of the fertile river that runs between
Poland and Germany”. In addition, the effect of air pollution is to affect the human respiratory
system which can result in diseases such as asthma patients, bronchitis patients, chronic
pneumonia, heart, and allergies. Most respiratory diseases are caused by carbon monoxide
gas produced by motor vehicles that use fuel. In the meantime, soil pollution has the effect of
contaminating the soil with hazardous compounds, which will prevent plants from growing
there.Furthermore, it is possible that the product of the plant will be categorized as
poisonous and will endanger the health of humans and animals when eaten.

Lastly, in this paragraph, I will reveal to all of us related measures to deal with
water, air, and soil pollution. As we know, water pollution is often caused by illegal activities
by factories. With this, the best step in dealing with water pollution is to impose actions and
heavy fines and summons to perpetrators who have violated the law related to the disposal
of waste toxics and chemicals in the wrong place or not following the procedures set by the
Water Services Commission Country (SPAN). While dealing with the air pollution crisis hold
a campaign like "Let's Take Care of Our Air". With this, we can involve various groups
regardless of religion and race. It is common knowledge that this air pollution is often caused
by irresponsible individuals. With this, the best way to deal with this crisis is in that way,
which aims to spread awareness to every individual regarding the importance of air and how
important air is to our daily lives. Don't forget the measures to deal with soil pollution is that
fertilizer suppliers need to sell or only produce environmentally friendly fertilizers in large
quantities and at reasonable prices. Indirectly, Malaysians are more interested in buying
environmentally friendly fertilizers. With this, the crops are also cleaner and free from
poisons or chemicals. However, there is one step that needs to be implemented at the
school level, which is to apply civic values related to the environment that can give early
exposure to children in ensuring that they all preserve and conserve the environment in the
future for the next generation.
In conclusion, this pollution is not a small crisis that can be carried out by one
party, rather it requires effective cooperation from all over our country regardless of race and
religion. It is no wonder that water, air, and soil pollution will have a huge negative impact on
our country economically, politically, and socially. To close my writing, I hope that we can
work together in preserving and conserving the environment from the crisis discussed
earlier, which is water, air, and soil pollution so that future generations can enjoy the natural
beauty of the environment. Finally, I would like to invite all of us to jointly carry out the
responsibility or trust given by God in loving or protecting the environment from pollution.
