LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 6

TEACHER: Shaine Dzyll S. Kuizon

SCHOOL: Simbalan Central Elementary School

I. OBJECTIVES:
o Describe and Interpret addition of integers using materials such as algebra tiles,
counters, chips, and cards (M6NS-IIh-155)
o Perform addition on integers (M6NS-Iii-156)
o Solve routine and non-routine problems involving addition of integers (M6NS-IIj-
157)

II. LEARNING RESOURCES:

o 21st Century Mathletes 6, pp. 50-53
o 21st Century Mathletes 6, pp. 152-157

III. MATERIALS:
o Mathletes 6 textbook, video clip, power point presentation

IV. PROCEDURES
A. MOTIVATION
o The class will be divided into 2 groups. Number cards from zero to nine will be
distributed among the members. The teacher will ask them to solve a simple
equation and the pupils will show their answers using their number cards.

B. REVIEW
o Compare the following integers by writing the symbol >, < or = on the line.
1. +13 _____ +8
2. -6 _____ -2
3. +7 _____ -15
4. -1 _____ +9
5. +4 _____ - 4

C. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON

Yesterday, the temperature was -14°F in the morning. If the temperature dropped 7°F,
what is the temperature now?
How are we going to solve integers?

D. LESSON PROPER
o Discuss how to solve equation problems involving addition of integers using
chips or counters.
I have a daily allowance of Php 5.00. Today my older sister gives me Php 3.00. How
much do I have now?

Yesterday, the temperature was -14°F in the morning. If the temperature dropped 7°F, what
is the temperature now?
o Let the pupils determine how to combine integers by studying the given examples
below:
1. ( +5 ) + ( +3)= ( +8)
2. (-4) + ( -7)= ( -3)
3. (+ 6) + (-10)= ( -4)
4. (-5) + (+6) = ( + 1)

E. GROUP ACTIVITY
The class will be divided into two groups. The pupils should give the sum of the numbers
the teacher will show. But this time, teacher will use the deck of cards. Black cards such
as spade and clover represent as negative integers (e.g. 7 spades = -7) and red cards such
as diamond and heart represent as positive integers (e.g. 8 hearts = +8). Anyone who gets
the correct answer first will earn a point.

V. EVALUATION
o Add the following integers.
1. (-25) + ( +17)
2. (+73) + (-29)
3. (-89) + ( -103)
4. (+ 194) + (+57)
5. (-217)+ ( +104)

VI. Assignment
o Solve each problem.
Kris gets on the elevator on the eleventh floor. The elevator goes down two floors and
stops. It then continues to go down four more floors where Kris got off. In what floor did
he get off the elevator?
