CALCULATION:

We know, Van’t Hoff equation is, lnS = -ΔH/R (1/T) + constant. If we compare the equation
with y = mx + c, we will find the slope, m = -ΔH/R in a lnS vs 1/T graph.

From the graph, we can get the value of slope, m = -678.77

Now, -ΔH/R = -678.77

ΔH = (678.778.314) [ R=8.314 J/molK]

= 5643.29 J/mol

= 5.64 kJ/mol

CALCULATION:

For system-I, (20 mL CCl4 & 50 mL aq KI)

I2 in organic layer (CCl4 layer), VI2NI2 = VNa2S2O3N Na2S2O3

20NI2 = 21.10.1

NI2 = 0.1055 N

[I2] in CCl4 = 0.05275 M (For I2 e=2)

I2 in aqueous layer, VI2NI2 = VNa2S2O3N Na2S2O3

50NI2 = 27.80.1

NI2 = 0.0556 N

[I2] in aqueous layer = 0.0278 M (For I2 e=2)

Here, Distribution Co-efficient, KD = 82

So, Free [I2] in aqueous layer = ([I2] in CCl4)/ KD

= 0.05275/82

= 6.4310-4 M

Now, [KI3] in equilibrium = Free [I2] in aqueous layer & in [KI3] - Free [I2] in aqueous layer

= 0.0278 - 6.4310-4

= 0.0272 M

[KI] in equilibrium = [KI]initial – [KI]reacted

= 0.1- 0.0272

= 0.0728 M

Now,

Kc = ([KI3] in eqb)/([I2] in eqb[KI] in eqb)

= 0.0272 / (6.4310-40.0728)

= 581.1 Lmol-1

For system-II, (10 mL CCl4 & 50 mL aq KI)

I2 in organic layer (CCl4 layer), VI2NI2 = VNa2S2O3N Na2S2O3

10NI2 = 5.50.1

NI2 = 0.055 N

[I2] in CCl4 = 0.0275 M (For I2 e=2)

I2 in aqueous layer, VI2NI2 = VNa2S2O3N Na2S2O3

50NI2 = 18.10.1

NI2 = 0.0362 N

[I2] in aqueous layer = 0.0181 M (For I2 e=2)

Here, Distribution Co-efficient, KD = 82

So, Free [I2] in aqueous layer = ([I2] in CCl4)/ KD

= 0.0275/82

= 3.35510-4 M

Now, [KI3] in equilibrium = Free [I2] in aqueous layer & in [KI3] - Free [I2] in aqueous layer

= 0.0181 – 3.35510-4

= 0.01776 M

[KI] in equilibrium = [KI]initial – [KI]reacted

= 0.1- 0.01776

= 0.08224 M

Now,

Kc = ([KI3] in eqb)/([I2] in eqb[KI] in eqb)

= 0.01776 / (3.35510-40.08224)

= 643.7 Lmol-1
