IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or Review:
presenting the new lesson ( ELICIT )
1. What is Personal Development?
2. What do we intend to get out from the course?
3. How can understanding yourself pave the way to self-acceptance and
better relationship with others?
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson Activity: SELF-CONCEPT Inventory
( ENGAGE )
Instructions:
1. Look at your own self-concept and answer the following self-
concept inventory in your journal (refer to the learner’s guide).
2. Give yourself a rating using the scale: 0 = very weak; 1 = weak; 2
= somewhat weak or somewhat strong; 3 = strong; 4 = very strong.
3. Look at the results of your self-concept inventory and answer the
following
questions.
a. In what areas do you consider yourself strong (with score 14-16
or
somewhat weak (score of 10-13) and very weak (below 10).
b. Are there qualities you consider as your weakness, but other
people consider as your strength?
Optional: Play the video to the class if time permits
C. Presenting examples/instances of Say:
the new lesson

A lady can say “I`m ugly” yet other consider her very charming. Or
conversely, one can have the illusion of saying “I am very intelligent or
competent” when most of his ideas sound unreasonable or illogical to
most of the people. There is indeed a big difference between what you see
in yourself (real self-image) and what is projected in the eyes of the
others (your social image).

Discuss:

1. How realistic is your self- image?

2. To what extent does it reflect your real self?

D.Discussing new concepts and New Concepts:

practicing new skills #1 ( EXPLORE ) The actual self is built on self-knowledge.
Self-knowledge is derived from social interactions that provide insight
into how others react to you. The actual self is who we are. It is how we
think, how we feel, look, and act. The actual self can be seen by others,
but because we have no way of truly knowing how others view us, the
actual self is our self-image.
The ideal self is how we want to be. It is an idealized image that we have
developed over time, based on what we have learned and experienced.
D. Discussing new concepts and Say:
practicing new skills #2
Here are some skills that will greatly increase the efficiency of any person
who owns them:

1. Determination

2. Self-confidence

3. Persistence

4. Managing stress

5. Problem-solving skills

6. Creativity

7. Generating ideas

E. Developing Mastery ( LEADS OF Ask:

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT )
Out of the 7 skills, choose one that you would like to be developed and
explain how will it help you

F. Finding Practical applications of Give the situation and encourage responses:

concepts and skills in daily living
( ELABORATE ) What do you want to be in the future? What do you want to achieve in the
next 2 years? 5 years? 10 years?

G. Making generalizations and Ask:

abstractions about the lesson.
Evaluating learning 1. How do you know yourself?

2. What ways will you learn to know yourself?

3. How can you achieve your ideal self with your actual self?

H. Evaluating Learning ( EVALUATION To be done before the start of the next session in a form of a review
)
I. Additional activities for application
and remediation ( EXTEND )
