METHODOLOGY

The virtual lab experiment tiled heat capacity of a calorimeter that was done on CONNECT
simulation. Using the following apparatuses:

 2 Beakers
 Thermometer
 2 Styrofoam Cups
 A Stir Bar
 Graduated Cylinder
 Hot and Cold Water
The first part of the simulation is making hot water by putting a beaker that is filled with
water on a hot plate and turning it on. So that the water can heat up. The next step was to measure
the temperature of the cold water that was chilled in an ice bath. Once that temperature was
recorded. We measure the temperature of the hot water and record that as well.
The second part of the simulation is to take 2 Styrofoam cups to make a calorimeter. To
which we add a stir bar, Cap the Styrofoam cups with a cork lid, insert a thermometer and put it
on the stir plate.
The last part for this simulation. Is to place the cold water into the graduated cylinder.
Then list down the volume of the cold water. Then put it into the calorimeter. Do the same thing
with the hot water. After adding both the hot and cold water into the calorimeter turn on the stir
plate. Measure the temperature of the mixture the list it down. Now calculate the mass of the cold
and hot water then record it. Then calculate the calorimeter constant and record it.

METHODOLOGY
The virtual lab experiment titled Enthalpy of Neutralization doe on connect simulation, Uses the
following equipment:

 2 Styrofoam cups
 2 Thermometer
 NaOH
 HCI
 Stir Bar
 Graduated Cylinder
The first step of the simulation is to create a calorimeter. We do that by putting together 2
Styrofoam cups, adding a stir bar capping it off with a cork lid and inserting a thermometer.
Then put it on the stir plate.
The next step is to pour 100mL of HCI in to the graduated cylinder, then record the
volume of the HCI. Then transfer it to the calorimeter and measure the temperature. For the
NaOH pour 100mL of it into the graduated cylinder and record the volume of it. After use a
second thermometer to record its temperature. After that turn on the stir plate. Then quicly
transfer the NaOH to the calorimeter. Measure the mixture’s temperature and turn off the
stir plate.
After getting all of the measurements calculate the following. Solution mass, moles of
hydrogen ion, hydroxide ion, Identify the limiting reactant and calculate the ΔH
neutralization. Then record all of it.
