Find the pieces of Jigsaw puzzle that correspond to the given symbols.
Stem: Using the number line, find the distance between two points on a line using absolute value.
B. Activity:
1. X and A 3. B and A
2. X and Y 4. B and Y
Guide questions:
-Explain the concept of subsets in relation to a line and provide
examples.(Relational)
-Analyze and describe the characteristics of a line segment, how does it differ from a line?
C. Analysis:
(Relational)
-How do you find the distance between two points in a number line? (Multi-
structural)
Concept:
Line Segment- a subset of a line consisting of two points (called endpoints) and all other
points between them. Its length can be measured. It is usually named by its two endpoints
with a bar above them.
To find the measure of the distance between any two points (or length of the line
segment), first identify the coordinates of the points, then find the absolute value of the
difference of the coordinates.
Ray- a subset of a line with one endpoint and all other points on one side of the endpoint.
Since it extends in one direction infinitely, it cannot be measured. It is named by two
points with a ray above them, and with the endpoint written first.
D. Abstraction:
Generalization:
How can the concept of subsets of a line be applied to finding the distance between two
points? (Extended abtract)
Valuing:
Studying the subset of a line and finding the distance between two oints using absolute value
offers values such as a conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, graphical
representation, geometry and measurement, real-life applications analytical skills, and
transferable knowledge.
E. Application: Direction: Draw line PR and locate point Q between points P and Q.
a. Name all the segments that are determined by the labeled points on PR.
b. Name all the rays that are determined by labeled points on PR
If a bamboo flute has 6 holes with their corresponding number in the picture below, what is
the distance of the first hole to the last hole?
