A SEMI- DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of geometry of shapes and sizes, and geometric
relationships.
B. Performance Standards
The learner is able to create models of plane figures and formulate and solve accurately authentic problems
involving sides and angles of a polygon.
C. Learning Competency
The learners are expected to do the following with at least 85% proficiency:
- Illustrate the subsets of a line.
Subtask:
- cite real-life applications of the subsets of a line
II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: SUBSETS OF A LINE

B. References : 21st Century Mathematics, Mathematics Learners Material
C. Materials: visual aids, pictures, power point, and markers

III. PROCEDURE :
PRELIMINARY:
1. Prayer
2. Check the attendance
3. Classroom rules
A. ELICIT
Motivation:
The teacher will divide the class into 3 groups. Each group will be given envelopes that contains materials that
will be utilized in every activities.

Jigsaw Puzzle (Group Activity/2mins)

The teacher will let the students assemble the Jigsaw puzzle
pieces to discover the hidden geometrical figure.

What geometrical figure was formed? “LINE”

What is a line?
(Review the definition of a line)

B. ENGAGE How will How will

*Presentation of the lesson and its objective.

Based on the activity we had, what do you think would
be our topic for today? 2.

UNLOCKING OF TERMS: 3.
1. SUBSET
2. DIRECTION
3. INFINITE

The teacher would show pictures related to the terms above which are related to the topic.
C. EXPLORE

ACTIVITY 2:
Answer the following questions using the figure below.

1. What is the name of the line? _____

2. Name at least 3 line segments in the figure. _______
3. Name at least 3 rays in the figure. ______
4. Is AT the same with TA? ______
5. Is AS the same with SA? _________

 From the activity, what are the subsets of a line?

 How do you describe a line segment and a ray?
 How are line segment and ray named?

D. EXPLAIN
Line Segment- a subset of a line consisting of two points (called endpoints). Its length can be measured.
It is usually named by its two endpoints with a bar above them.
Ray- a subset of a line with one endpoint and all other points on one side of the endpoint. Since it extends
in one direction infinitely, it cannot be measured. It is named by two points with a ray above them,
and with the endpoint written first.
Exercise:
Illustrate the following:
1. Draw line q and locate point M between ray PQ.
2. Draw line z consisting QT within QU and SP

INDEPENDENT ACTIVITY:
1.Draw line r,and locate point Q between point P and R.
2. Name all the segments that are determined by the labeled points on line r.
3. Name all the rays that are determined by labeled points on line r

E. ELABORATE
The teacher will present pictures in real- life situations
1. Clock
2. Wood Stick
3. Lane
4. Arrow

The teacher will ask the students to give examples of line segments and rays in real- life situations.

F.EVALUATE
Illustrate the following:
1.Draw line j and locate point M between points P and Q.
2.Draw line m ,consisting AP within WM and QP
3.Draw line p and locate point A between points YR , such that YR is between LA .
4.Name all the segments and rays in line m , consisting points G,R,E,A,T,respectively.

G.EXTEND
Study about the different kinds of angles.
