A. Activity
The teacher shows a poem entitled “Midnight Snack” by Carrie
Carter through PowerPoint presentation and let the students read it.

B. Analysis
The teacher asks the students the following questions:
1. 1. What is the title of the poem?
2. 2. Who is the author of the poem?
3. What does her brother told her after she eats the cupcake?
4. After reading the poem what have you learn?
3. 5. What have you observed in the underlined words in the
poem?
C. Abstraction
The teacher introduces the FIGURES OF SPEECH to the class and
show them slides.
FIGURES OF SPEECH
A word or phrase using figurative language—language that has
other meaning than its normal definition.
Simile
Uses “like or “as” to compare two unlike things.
Metaphor
Says that two different things are the same things.
Personification
Gives human qualities to non-human things.
Idiom
Is the phrases that do not mean exactly what they say.
D. Application
The teacher groups the class into 4 to construct English grammar
sentences using different types of figurative language. Each group
will be name red, pink, green and yellow. Group yellow will give 2
examples of simile.
Group red will give 2 examples of metaphor. Group pink will
give 2 examples of personification. Group green will give 2
examples of idiom.

IV. Evaluation
Directions: Identify the Figures of Speech used in the sentence. Write
if it is Simile, Metaphor, Personification and Idiom. Write it in ¼ sheet
of paper.1.
Research in advance the other types of figures of speech and give one
example each. Write it in ½ crosswise.
